Sample interview questions
How have you identified and converted an expansion opportunity within an existing mid-market account?

I review adoption data, business objectives, stakeholder feedback, and upcoming operational changes to uncover gaps where additional products or seats can create value. I build a quantified business case, align champions and decision-makers, then manage a mutual action plan through commercial close.

How do you maintain forecast accuracy across a portfolio of expansion opportunities?

I use defined deal stages with evidence-based exit criteria, validate timelines and decision processes directly with buyers, and update close probability based on current customer engagement. I review pipeline weekly, identify risks early, and separate committed opportunities from upside.

Describe how you would structure a quarterly business review for a strategic customer.

I would begin with the customer’s agreed goals and measurable outcomes, review adoption and value achieved, address risks or unresolved issues, and identify priorities for the next quarter. I would conclude with a documented action plan, executive alignment, and relevant expansion recommendations tied to business impact.

How do you handle a customer who is satisfied with the product but reluctant to expand?

I would avoid pushing a generic upsell and first clarify the customer’s current priorities, budget cycle, and perceived barriers. Then I would connect expansion to a specific operational problem or strategic objective, using relevant proof points and a phased approach if appropriate.

What steps do you take to manage multiple customer requests, demos, proposals, and follow-ups without losing momentum?

I prioritize work by revenue impact, renewal risk, customer urgency, and agreed deadlines. I use CRM tasks, calendar blocks, documented next steps, and regular pipeline reviews to ensure every stakeholder interaction has a clear owner and follow-up date.
