Sample interview questions
I begin by identifying the truly non-negotiable risks, such as liability exposure, data protection obligations, intellectual-property ownership, and regulatory commitments. I then distinguish those from negotiable commercial positions, explain trade-offs clearly to Sales and leadership, and propose workable alternatives that preserve momentum while protecting the business.
I would establish clear triage criteria based on deal value, risk, strategic importance, and timing, then allocate matters according to expertise and capacity. I would use playbooks, templates, regular pipeline reviews, and escalation pathways so that lawyers retain ownership while the team handles exceptions consistently and efficiently.
I focus on scope and service commitments, data processing and security, intellectual property, confidentiality, fees, warranties, limitations of liability, indemnities, termination rights, audit provisions, compliance obligations, and the operational feasibility of commitments. I assess these issues in the context of the customer relationship, deal value, applicable law, and the company’s risk appetite.
I set clear expectations, delegate meaningful ownership, and provide timely feedback through deal debriefs and regular one-to-ones. I use difficult negotiations as coaching opportunities, remain available for escalation, and ensure development plans align with both individual career goals and the team’s operational needs.
I build trust by learning the sales process, understanding pipeline priorities, responding predictably, and offering practical options rather than simply rejecting requests. When I need to challenge a position, I explain the business impact in plain language, quantify the risk where possible, and work collaboratively toward an acceptable path forward.
