Sample interview questions
How do you prepare for and conduct an independent monitoring visit?

I review the protocol, monitoring plan, prior visit report, open action items, enrollment status, safety data and data listings before the visit. At the site, I verify source data and consent documentation, assess investigational product accountability, review essential documents, discuss issues with site staff, and document clear actions and deadlines in a timely monitoring report.

Describe how you address a protocol deviation identified during monitoring.

I first confirm the facts against source records and the protocol, assess potential participant-safety and data-integrity impact, and ensure the site documents the event appropriately. I escalate according to the study procedures, work with the investigator and sponsor team on corrective and preventive actions, and follow through until the issue is resolved.

What methods do you use to maintain site compliance with ICH-GCP requirements?

I use consistent review of informed consent, delegation logs, training records, essential documents, source records and investigational product processes. I reinforce requirements through practical site training, identify risks early, document findings clearly, and track corrective actions through completion.

How would you manage competing priorities across multiple sites and studies?

I prioritize activities by participant safety, regulatory deadlines, data-criticality, enrollment needs and upcoming milestones. I maintain a structured visit and follow-up plan, communicate risks early to project stakeholders, and regularly reassess priorities as site conditions and study timelines change.

How do you mentor a CRA I or CRA II during co-monitoring?

I set expectations before the visit, explain the purpose and risk areas of each activity, and allow the colleague to lead appropriate sections under supervision. Afterward, I provide specific feedback on documentation, communication, protocol interpretation and follow-up planning, then agree on measurable development goals.
