Sample interview questions
How do you develop an LSAT study plan for a new student?

I begin with a diagnostic assessment and a discussion of the student's target score, timeline, learning preferences, and prior testing experience. I use the results to identify the highest-impact gaps, establish weekly goals, and balance content review with timed practice. I revisit the plan regularly using performance data and adjust it as the student's needs change.

How would you help a student whose LSAT practice scores have plateaued?

I would analyze the student's recent work by section, question type, timing pattern, and error category rather than simply assigning more practice tests. Then I would isolate one or two root causes, such as a recurring reasoning gap or inefficient pacing strategy, and use targeted drills followed by reflection. Once the student demonstrates consistency untimed, I would progressively reintroduce timed conditions.

How do you keep students engaged in a fully remote tutoring environment?

I set clear session objectives, use shared documents and live problem-solving, and regularly ask students to explain their reasoning aloud. I also connect each assignment to a measurable goal so students understand its purpose. Frequent progress reviews help reinforce improvement and maintain accountability between sessions.

How do you communicate student progress to families while respecting the student's learning process?

I provide concise, objective updates focused on attendance, completed milestones, strengths, current priorities, and next steps. I frame setbacks as actionable learning information rather than judgments and ensure that the student understands the plan being shared. This creates transparency while preserving a supportive coaching relationship.

What would you do if a student needs support during evenings or weekends before an upcoming test date?

I would first set expectations around availability and response times, then prioritize support based on the student's test timeline and needs. For urgent academic issues, I would provide focused guidance, such as reviewing a small set of representative errors or revising the final-week study plan. I would also help the student avoid counterproductive last-minute overwork by reinforcing a sustainable test-day preparation strategy.
