Sample interview questions
I mapped the existing workflow, identified bottlenecks and error-prone handoffs, then introduced standardized intake fields, automated routing, and reporting. I measured success through turnaround time, error rates, adoption, and the hours saved by the team.
I would document clear approval criteria, create risk tiers for submissions, and automate routine checks while reserving exceptions for expert review. Regular audits and feedback from licensors would help ensure speed does not compromise compliance.
I prepare thoroughly, communicate clearly and consistently, follow through on commitments, and seek to understand each partner's priorities. I would use structured check-ins and transparent issue resolution to build trust over time.
I would first validate the data sources, ownership, reporting requirements, and reconciliation process. Then I would standardize data inputs, automate calculations and exception flags, establish a reporting cadence, and document controls for accuracy.
I set clear priorities and ownership, use SOPs to reduce avoidable questions, and hold regular one-on-ones focused on feedback and development. During urgent periods, I stay hands-on where needed while explaining decisions so the team gains confidence and capability.
About this role.
Help scale a high-impact team that protects Fresh Prints’ biggest partnerships
IMPORTANT NOTE: This is a talent pool. We will reach out to you if we find a suitable match to move forward in the recruitment process.
Fresh Prints is a New York-based custom apparel startup. We find incredible students and give them training and support to build the business at their schools.
The Licensing Team plays a critical role in reviewing and approving proofs for brand compliance, but we believe it can do a lot more. We’re looking for a Licensing Manager who can modernize how the team operates while unlocking new growth opportunities, turning Licensing from a function that manages approvals into one that actively drives revenue and efficiency.
A big part of this role is bringing structure and automation to a function that’s relied on a lot of manual work. We’re looking for someone who can identify where processes are slow or repetitive, and build the systems and workflows to fix that, while also developing stronger relationships with key partners that open up new growth for Fresh Prints.
This role has an impact on:
- How do we build stronger, more strategic relationships with our licensing partners?
- How do we grow the Licensing team into a function that drives real, measurable business impact?
- How do we replace manual, repetitive licensing workflows with automated, scalable processes?
We’re looking for someone who can think strategically, isn’t afraid to overhaul how things are done, and ideally has experience in licensing. We’re on a remarkable growth trajectory, and as Fresh Prints grows, you will too. For the right person, this role offers unlimited opportunity. You will be given the space and guidance to have a tremendous impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the Licensing team, owning both daily operations and long-term improvements
- Oversee and improve core workflows, including trademark checks, design approvals, licensing portal submissions, and royalty reporting and tracking
- Manage relationships and communication with university and Greek licensors, and build the kind of long-term partnerships that open doors to new opportunities
- Identify and pursue new licensing opportunities, expanding our network of partner schools and organizations
- Drive key initiatives to modernize the function, including:
- Rolling out AI-powered tools for faster, more accurate licensing checks
- Automating and scaling RFP submissions to acquire new licenses
- Streamlining royalty report generation
- Publishing and maintaining up-to-date licensing guidelines and SOPs
- Collaborate closely with Tech, Product, Sales, and Design to get initiatives built and adopted
- Coach and support the team through strong documentation, clear SOPs, and direct feedback
Requirements
- At least 3+ years in operations, licensing, compliance, or similar roles
- At least 1+ years of experience managing a team
- Strong project management and workflow optimization skills
- Experience identifying inefficient processes and implementing automation or tools to streamline them
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
- Strong relationship-building skills, with a personable, professional style that resonates well with Licensing Directors and other US-based partners
- Familiarity with US university and Greek life culture, or a strong willingness to quickly get up to speed on it
- Analytical mindset with attention to detail
- Comfortable navigating multiple tools and systems (Gmail, Google Sheets, Airtable, etc.)
- Bonus if you’ve worked with licensing platforms (e.g., Affinity, DLH, BrandComply, etc.)
Personal Attributes
- Strategic operator: You can zoom out to see the bigger picture and improve how things work, while staying hands-on enough to get into the details when it matters
- Relationship-driven: You build trust easily and know how to turn a good conversation into a lasting partnership
- Ownership mindset: You don’t wait for direction; you see what needs to change and drive it forward
- Calm under pressure: You can manage competing priorities and tight timelines without losing your cool
- Coach at heart: You genuinely enjoy developing people, and you lead with clear expectations and honest feedback
- Comfortable with ambiguity: You’re energized, not intimidated, by building something that doesn’t fully exist yet
