Sample interview questions
I begin by clarifying the referral question and collecting developmental, medical, educational, and psychosocial history through interview and collateral records. I select measures appropriate to the client’s age, culture, presenting concerns, and functional context, integrate test results with clinical observations, and prepare a clear diagnostic formulation. I then provide a feedback session and a written report with practical, individualized recommendations.
I establish clear administration protocols, confirm that the psychometrist is trained on each instrument, and review behavioral observations, scoring, and data completeness. I remain available for clinical questions and audit results for validity concerns or deviations from standardized procedures. Final interpretation and diagnostic responsibility remain with me as the licensed clinician.
I use plain, respectful language and begin with the client’s strengths and the primary questions they want answered. I explain findings in functional terms, check understanding throughout the discussion, and connect recommendations to concrete next steps at home, school, work, or in treatment. I also tailor the written summary to be accessible to both families and referring providers.
I first determine whether virtual testing is clinically appropriate for the referral question and selected measures. I verify identity, privacy, technology reliability, test security, and the client’s environment, while documenting any limitations that could affect validity. I use validated remote procedures where available and recommend in-person follow-up when remote conditions compromise interpretation.
With appropriate consent, I share concise diagnostic conclusions, functional impacts, and actionable recommendations that directly inform treatment planning. I communicate relevant risk, accommodation, and follow-up needs promptly while maintaining clear role boundaries and confidentiality. I value collaborative discussion because it helps translate assessment findings into coordinated care for the client and family.
