AI Summary

The role, at a glance.

TRM Labs seeks a GEOINT Analyst to locate scam compounds, identify operators, and develop actionable intelligence packages for law-enforcement and government partners. The role combines geospatial intelligence with OSINT, link analysis, on-chain attribution, and open-source or commercial investigative tools. The analyst will work on a distributed, async-first team while coordinating closely with threat intelligence analysts, investigators, engineers, and external partners. Success requires 3–5 years of practical GEOINT experience, sound targeting judgment, clear intelligence writing, and demonstrated use of AI to accelerate analytical workflows. This is a high-ownership role in a fast-moving environment with changing priorities and occasional surge support needs.

Sample interview questions
Describe how you would pivot from a single victim lead to identify a broader scam-compound network.

I would first validate and preserve the original lead, then extract pivotable indicators such as addresses, phone numbers, IPs, wallet addresses, images, usernames, and travel or logistics clues. I would correlate these across geospatial, OSINT, commercial, and relevant blockchain sources, document each link with confidence levels, and build a network view that distinguishes observed facts from assessed relationships. The final product would prioritize actionable targets, key gaps, and recommended next collection steps.

How do you ensure that a GEOINT or OSINT assessment is defensible for law-enforcement partners?

I maintain clear source provenance, record collection dates and methods, corroborate critical claims with independent sources where possible, and explicitly state confidence and alternative explanations. I separate raw observations from analytic judgments and use reproducible link charts, maps, and citations. Before delivery, I review whether the package answers the operational question and whether another analyst could retrace the reasoning.

Give an example of using AI in an intelligence workflow without compromising analytical rigor.

I use AI to accelerate repetitive tasks such as extracting entities from large text sets, clustering similar reports, drafting structured research notes, and identifying possible pivots. I treat generated output as a hypothesis or working draft, not evidence, and verify important claims against primary sources. This approach saves time while retaining analyst ownership of sourcing, reasoning, and final judgments.

How would you handle a time-sensitive disruption window when the available intelligence is incomplete?

I would rapidly identify the decision-critical facts, assess what is known with confidence, and clearly describe the most material uncertainties. I would provide the best actionable package available, including immediate leads, risk indicators, and specific collection actions that could change the assessment. I would keep stakeholders updated as evidence develops rather than delaying all output until certainty is complete.

What approach would you take to analyze a suspected scam compound in Southeast Asia using only open-source and commercial tools?

I would begin with geolocating available imagery, addresses, and infrastructure indicators, then combine satellite imagery, mapping data, company records, social platforms, communications metadata, and local-language reporting. I would look for operational patterns including personnel movement, device or telecom infrastructure, financial links, property ownership, and repeated visual or logistical signatures. I would then map the network, identify high-value pivots, and document source reliability and confidence for each assessed connection.

About this role.

Build a Safer World.

TRM Labs provides AI-powered intelligence solutions that help public and private sector agencies investigate and disrupt crime. TRM’s platforms enable investigators to trace illicit activity, build cases, and construct operating pictures of threat networks. Leading agencies and businesses worldwide rely on TRM to make the world safer and more secure.

About the Role

The Scam Disruption team is TRM’s tip of the spear against pig butchering syndicates, romance fraud networks, and investment scam operations that steal billions from victims each year. As a GEOINT Analyst, you’ll be the team’s location specialist: finding where scam compounds are, who is operating them, and how they move, then turning that picture into intelligence law enforcement partners can act on.

The Impact You Will Have

  • Locate and map scam compounds, people, and devices

  • Fuse intelligence with on-chain attribution and OSINT to identify operators and controllers

  • Find the seams: pivot from a single address, IP, photo, or victim lead to the compound and the people running it

  • Partner with the Threat Intelligence Analyst (Scams Expert), the CTI Analyst, and the All-Source Lead to translate disruption strategy into targeting packages that influence law enforcement and government action

What We’re Looking For

  • 3 to 5 years of hands-on GEOINT experience: military, IC, law enforcement, or a GEOINT/OSINT firm

  • Works beyond the government toolkit: you can get answers from open-source and commercial tools when classified systems and data aren’t available

  • Creative tactical thinking — demonstrated ability to pivot from a single point to a network view, identifying operators behind operations

  • Link and pattern analysis fluency — ability to correlate disparate data sources to generate defensible target packages

  • Clear written and verbal communication: you can explain your methods, your confidence, and your own role in plain terms, and write memos, attribution write-ups, and leads that are actionable

  • AI fluency (required) — you use AI tools in your workflow, synthesizing data, drafting outputs, and accelerating analysis, with examples of how AI has impacted your work

  • Crypto experience is a plus, not a requirement — we teach on-chain tradecraft; we cannot teach the targeter’s instinct

  • Familiarity with Southeast Asia scam compounds or Chinese-run criminal networks is a plus

  • Location: remote in the UK, EMEA, or US (including Washington, DC). You must already have the right to work where you’re based.

About the Team

  • The Scam Disruption team operates within TRM’s Blockchain Intelligence organization, alongside threat intelligence analysts, on-chain investigators, and federal partners

  • All-Source Investigators are the operational core, converting strategy and tooling into prosecutable, actionable intelligence

  • Distributed team with an async-first approach via Slack and Notion, plus structured syncs for alignment

  • High autonomy, high standards, low bureaucracy — work directly with analysts, engineers, and customers who depend on your output

Team Operating Rhythms

  • Weekly team syncs to align targeting priorities and review disruption opportunities

  • Daily async standups via Slack on active work, returns, and target packages in flight

  • Primary time zone overlap: US Eastern / Central

  • All output documented in Notion and TRM’s investigative tools

  • Surge availability expected during time-sensitive disruption windows
