Sample interview questions
How would you design a secure joiner-mover-leaver process for internal SaaS applications?

I would integrate the HR source of truth with the identity provider, define role-based access groups, and use SCIM where available for automated provisioning and deprovisioning. I would require approval workflows for elevated access, validate termination timing, and regularly reconcile application accounts against the identity directory.

How do you apply least privilege when administering Salesforce and other business systems?

I start by mapping job functions to the minimum required permissions, using roles, permission sets, groups, and separation of duties rather than broad administrator access. I document exceptions, set expiry dates for temporary elevation, and run periodic access reviews with system owners.

Describe an administrative process you would automate first in this role.

I would prioritize repetitive access requests and access-review evidence collection because they are high-volume and security-sensitive. I would automate intake, approvals, group assignment, logging, reminders, and reporting while retaining human approval for privileged or exceptional access.

How would you prepare for a SOC 2 access-control audit?

I would maintain current system inventories, access-control policies, approval records, privileged-access lists, onboarding and offboarding evidence, and completed periodic review reports. Before the audit, I would test samples for completeness, resolve stale accounts, and ensure documentation matches actual configurations.

What steps would you take if an employee reports they cannot access a business-critical application?

I would verify identity-provider status, account lifecycle state, group membership, assigned roles, SSO logs, and any conditional-access policies. After restoring only the appropriate access, I would document the root cause and implement an automation, monitoring rule, or process improvement to reduce recurrence.

This gives us a unique opportunity to transform an entire category and set a new benchmark for how modern revenue teams operate.

Join us to help transform how companies around the world run revenue — and build the platform that will guide leading revenue teams into the future.

THE OPPORTUNITY

At Salesloft, our Business Systems Administrators keep the internal systems that run the company secure, reliable, and well-administered. You will own the configuration, access, and health of the business-critical applications our teams depend on every day — making sure they work, stay secure, and scale with the business.

This is a hands-on systems and administration role with real ownership. You will administer core business applications, manage access and permissions with a security-first mindset, and build the automation and process that keep those systems reliable. Working within our Security organization, you will treat access and configuration as security controls, not just IT tasks.

On a day-to-day basis, you will:

  • Administer and configure core business systems and SaaS applications, keeping them reliable, secure, and well-governed.
  • Manage user access, roles, and permissions with a security-first approach — enforcing least privilege and clean provisioning and deprovisioning.
  • Automate administration, access reviews, and routine tasks to reduce manual effort and error.
  • Integrate business systems and maintain the data flows between them.
  • Partner with Security, IT, and business teams to support audits, access reviews, and compliance requirements.
  • Document configurations and build repeatable processes that keep systems maintainable as the company grows.

This role lives at the heart of how we Make Your Mark: you’ll treat systems administration as a discipline — automating, documenting, and fixing root causes so the same issues don’t recur. And in the spirit of how we are Customer Inspired — where every decision has a true north, and it’s our customer — you’ll administer access and configuration as the security controls they are, protecting the company and the data customers trust us with.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for a detail-oriented systems administrator who takes ownership of the applications they manage and brings a security-first mindset to access and configuration. You are organized, reliable, and comfortable automating your way out of repetitive work.

You embody what we call Evidence Over Ego — you work methodically, verify configurations against policy, and surface issues honestly. You are process-minded and build systems administration that scales.

This is the right role if you want to own the internal systems that keep a category-defining company running securely.

THE TEAM

The Salesloft Security organization protects the platform, the company, and the sensitive data our customers and employees entrust to us. Business Systems Administration sits within this remit because access and configuration are core security controls. The team works closely with IT, Security Engineering, and the business teams who rely on these systems.

Values: Move as One, Evidence over Ego, Lead from the Front, Make Your Mark, Customer-Inspired.

The team Moves as One — systems administration, security, and IT share ownership of secure, reliable internal systems and coordinate directly. And we are relentlessly Customer Inspired: our customers’ success is the only scorecard that matters, and well-governed systems and disciplined access management are part of how we keep the company and its data secure.

THE SKILL SET

  • Experience administering business systems or SaaS applications, including access and configuration management.
  • Strong understanding of access management fundamentals — roles, permissions, least privilege, and provisioning lifecycle.
  • Comfort automating administrative tasks and access reviews (scripting or built-in automation tools).
  • A security-first, detail-oriented approach to systems administration.
  • Good communication and documentation skills.
  • Experience administering systems such as Salesforce, identity providers (Okta, Entra), or other core enterprise SaaS.
  • Familiarity with SSO, SCIM, and identity/access governance tooling.
  • Experience supporting audits or compliance access reviews (e.g., SOC 2).

At Salesloft, we are committed to creating an inclusive and supportive workplace where everyone belongs and can thrive. We focus on culture add, not culture fit, and believe our teams are made stronger by the unique perspectives, experiences, and identities each person brings.
