Sample interview questions
How would you approach onboarding a hotel that needs its PMS data integrated with an accounting system?

I would first map the hotel's operational and financial workflows, including night audit, folios, taxes, receivables, and month-end close. I would then configure the chart of accounts and transaction mappings, validate the integration with representative data, reconcile outputs, and provide clear customer training and documentation.

Describe how you would investigate a discrepancy between Cloudbeds data and an accounting ERP.

I would identify the exact transaction type, date range, and affected accounts, then trace the data from source activity through mapping rules, integration logs, and the ERP import. I would isolate whether the issue is caused by configuration, timing, missing data, or an integration error, communicate the findings clearly, and verify the correction through reconciliation.

What hotel accounting concepts are most important when configuring a property?

Key concepts include the general ledger structure, revenue recognition, tax treatment, accounts receivable, payment and settlement flows, night audit processes, folio postings, reconciliation, and month-end reporting. These determine how operational transactions should be mapped into accurate financial records.

How do you explain a technical integration issue to a non-technical finance customer?

I avoid jargon and explain the business impact first, such as which transactions or reports are affected. I then describe the next steps in plain language, set expectations for ownership and timing, and confirm understanding before proceeding with the resolution.

How would you manage competing customer onboarding requests while collaborating with Sales, Product, and Engineering?

I would prioritize work by customer impact, implementation deadlines, financial risk, and issue severity. I would document actions and dependencies, maintain proactive customer updates, and escalate product defects or engineering blockers with clear examples, evidence, and desired outcomes.
