Sample interview questions
I begin by confirming business outcomes, application landscape, identity sources, security requirements, and operational ownership. I translate these into an architecture and phased delivery plan, validate integrations and resilience through testing, lead cutover readiness, and provide runbooks and knowledge transfer before handover.
I would inspect protocol traces, browser and server logs, token or assertion claims, redirect URIs, certificate validity, clock synchronization, audience values, and client configuration. I would then isolate whether the issue is in the identity provider, service provider, network path, or application session handling and document the corrective action.
I assess availability objectives, geographic distribution, directory and database replication, load balancing, session handling, certificate management, backup and recovery, monitoring, and disaster-recovery procedures. The design must also account for dependency failures and be validated with resilience and failover testing.
I use risk-based controls and select the least disruptive mechanism that meets the security objective, such as adaptive MFA, trusted-device signals, and standards-based federation. I explain trade-offs to stakeholders and validate the proposed journey with both security and operational teams.
I maintain a visible risk, dependency, decision, and change log with clear owners and dates. I raise issues early, explain their delivery and security impact, propose options, and ensure agreed decisions are reflected in the architecture, plan, and customer documentation.
