The engineer will partner with Data Engineering and business stakeholders to turn ambiguous questions into reusable, audit-ready data products. Strong expertise in advanced SQL, dimensional modelling, dbt, BigQuery-like warehouses, Python, and BI tools is required. This is a high-autonomy, high-velocity remote role available across Europe in GMT to GMT+1 time zones.

Sample interview questions
I would first align metric definitions, grain, owners, and source-of-truth systems with stakeholders. I would implement reusable dbt models and semantic definitions, add tests for uniqueness, completeness, and reconciliations, and document assumptions so the same metrics are consistently consumed across BI and downstream applications.
I combine structural tests with business-level reconciliation. For example, I compare modeled revenue and subscriber counts against finance-approved reports, validate cohort behavior over time, inspect source-to-target row-level samples, and define alerting for material variances.
I would establish clear grains for subscriptions, invoices, invoice line items, payments, and customer accounts. Facts would retain immutable transactional detail, while conformed dimensions would support consistent customer, product, plan, and time analysis; ARR and MRR would be modeled as explicitly defined periodic snapshots rather than inferred inconsistently in every report.
I would clarify the decision the metric must support, identify the relevant population, time window, event definitions, and exclusions, then propose a written definition with examples. If trade-offs exist, I would explain them, secure alignment on the intended interpretation, and build a documented reusable model instead of a one-off query.
I would use pull-request checks that run linting, compile validation, targeted Slim CI builds, and tests for changed models plus their dependencies. The workflow should also enforce documentation, monitor source freshness, protect production deployments, and include controlled access and PII tagging where needed.

About the role
We’re looking for an experienced Analytics Engineer to join our Data team as one of its first hires. You will own the transformation layer between raw data and business decisions: modelling our data in dbt, defining the certified metrics the company runs on, and setting the standards that every analyst and data scientist at ElevenLabs builds.
Drive the implementation of a world-class metric layer for the company: modelling conventions, project structure, testing, CI, and documentation.
Design and maintain the certified KPI layer for product (activation, adoption, retention, usage), finance (billing, ARR, revenue), and company-wide topics, built to withstand audit scrutiny.
Partner with Data Engineering on evolving the data warehouse architecture, and with stakeholders to turn ambiguous questions into trusted, reusable data products, including data served through AI agents.
Requirements
Demonstrated experience building and scaling a dbt project and metrics layer, ideally as one of the first analytics engineers on a growing team.
Expert knowledge of dbt and advanced SQL (required); strong grasp of dimensional modelling, grain, and incremental patterns.
Proficiency across the modern data stack (BigQuery or similar warehouse, Python, BI tools such as Looker).
Rigour around data quality: you test, document, and reconcile by default, and you spot a model that runs cleanly but is quietly wrong.
Strong ability to understand varied stakeholder requirements, push back where needed, and translate them into generalised, well-documented models.
Bonus:
Experience modelling billing, subscription and ARR data (Stripe, Salesforce) or product event data at scale.
Experience serving data to LLM-based agents or building semantic / metrics layers consumed by AI tools.
Experience with CI for data (Slim CI, data contracts, PII policy tags) and infrastructure-as-code for warehouse access.
Location
This role is remote-first, so it can be executed from anywhere in Europe, with the ability to operate in GMT and GMT+1 timezones. If you prefer, you can work from our offices in London and Warsaw.
