Sample interview questions
I would begin by defining each metric and its grain, then document authoritative sources, time boundaries, currency handling, and adjustment rules. I would build reproducible reconciliation models that tie invoice, subscription, CRM opportunity, and revenue-recognition records together, with variance thresholds and exception reporting. I would validate results against Finance-owned reports and investigate material differences before certifying the KPI layer.
I would first align on the planning horizon, driver definitions, required scenarios, and decision owners. I would create a transparent driver-based model using historical conversion, retention, expansion, usage, pricing, and pipeline signals, while clearly separating actuals, committed assumptions, and scenario assumptions. The final output would include baseline, upside, and downside cases, accuracy monitoring, and concise explanations of the major forecast movements.
I would implement metric definitions, source lineage, version-controlled transformation logic, documented approval ownership, automated data-quality tests, and reconciliation checks. Controls would include completeness, uniqueness, period-over-period movement, and source-to-ledger or source-to-billing validations. I would also retain evidence for material adjustments and establish an escalation process for unresolved variances.
I clarify the decision the stakeholder needs to make, the intended audience, the time period, and what action could follow from the result. I then propose a precise metric definition, assumptions, source data, and a lightweight initial deliverable before investing in a production solution. This approach makes trade-offs visible and prevents a vague request from becoming an unmaintainable one-off analysis.
I would define the target segment, treatment and control logic, success metrics, guardrails, and required observation window before launch. I would measure effects on conversion, average contract value, expansion, retention, gross margin, and revenue quality rather than relying on a single top-line metric. I would also assess selection bias, statistical confidence, and downstream cohort behavior before recommending a rollout.

About the role
We’re looking for a Finance Data Scientist to join our central Data team as the first dedicated analytics partner to Finance. You’ll turn billing, revenue and forecasting data into audit-ready numbers, and the analysis that shapes pricing and planning decisions as we scale towards IPO.
Own finance-facing analysis: revenue and ARR reconciliation, cohort and retention economics, pricing and packaging experiments.
Partner with Analytics Engineering on the certified finance KPI layer (ARR, billing, revenue), and be the first to catch when a number is quietly wrong.
Build forecasting and scenario models that FP&A uses directly in planning and board reporting.
Translate ambiguous finance questions from FP&A, RevOps and leadership into clear, reusable analysis.
Requirements
Demonstrated experience as a data scientist or analyst embedded with a Finance / FP&A function, ideally at a growth-stage or pre-IPO company.
Strong SQL and Python, with comfort reconciling data across Stripe, Salesforce and a dbt-modelled warehouse.
Finance fluency: ARR, billing, revenue recognition, cohort economics — you can speak FP&A’s language.
Rigour around data quality: you reconcile by default and can explain a variance, not just report it.
Strong stakeholder management with Finance leadership, and the ability to push back on ambiguous asks.
Bonus
Experience preparing finance data for audit, SOX or IPO readiness.
Experience with pricing / packaging experimentation or revenue forecasting at a subscription or usage-based business.
Experience with dbt or a modern warehouse (BigQuery), partnering directly with analytics engineers.
Growth potential
We believe in hiring the best talent in the world to make an impact in the right role at the right time. At ElevenLabs, strong performance creates opportunities for growth. Here are some of the career paths you can expect after excelling in this role:
Grow into a Lead Finance Data Scientist role as the central Data team scales.
Expand scope into broader strategic finance or RevOps analytics.
Path into a Head of FP&A Analytics or data leadership track.
Location
This role is remote-first, so it can be executed from anywhere in Europe or the US East Coast, with the ability to operate in CET / ET timezones required. If you prefer, you can work from our offices in London, Warsaw, Dublin or New York.
