The role, at a glance.
Monzo is seeking an Information Security Manager to lead initiatives across its security programme in a regulated digital-banking environment. Sample interview questions
I would engage product, engineering, legal, and risk stakeholders early to understand the product, data flows, architecture, and regulatory context. I would identify threats and control gaps, document risks with clear ownership, agree proportionate mitigations, and track residual risk through launch and post-launch review.
I would begin by mapping the existing process, analysing control evidence and stakeholder feedback, and identifying where decisions or ownership are unclear. I would introduce a measurable, lightweight workflow with defined control owners, risk thresholds, review dates, and reporting so that improvements are sustainable rather than one-off.
I focus on business impact, likelihood, affected customers or services, and the decision required. I avoid unnecessary technical detail, present practical options with trade-offs, and provide a clear recommendation supported by evidence.
I would track asset coverage, vulnerability discovery-to-triage time, remediation time by severity, overdue critical findings, exception volumes, recurring root causes, and verification rates. I would segment reporting by business service and risk level so leadership can prioritise meaningful exposure reduction.
I would set clear outcomes, provide regular coaching and constructive feedback, and give analysts progressively complex ownership of assessments and projects. I would also create opportunities for peer review, training, and stakeholder exposure while ensuring they have the support needed to make sound risk decisions.
