Sample interview questions
How would you advise the People team through a sensitive employee-relations investigation involving potential discrimination across multiple jurisdictions?

I would first establish a clear investigation plan covering preservation of evidence, applicable local legal requirements, witness interviews, confidentiality, and escalation paths. I would work closely with HR and external local counsel where needed, maintain a factual and impartial process, and provide documented recommendations that address both legal exposure and cultural considerations.

Describe how you balance legal risk with business urgency when advising executive stakeholders.

I frame advice around the practical options available, the likelihood and severity of each risk, and the operational impact of each decision. Rather than simply identifying a legal obstacle, I recommend a defensible path forward with appropriate controls, decision owners, and documentation.

What approach would you take to operationalize a company-wide ethics and compliance program?

I would begin with a risk assessment and map existing policies, controls, training, reporting channels, and investigation procedures. I would prioritize the highest-risk areas, assign accountable owners, establish measurable program indicators, and periodically test whether the controls are understood and effective.

How have you managed litigation, subpoenas, or legal holds while minimizing disruption to the business?

I use a structured response process that promptly identifies custodians, preserves relevant data, coordinates with IT and security, and documents the scope of the hold. I keep stakeholders informed through concise status updates and focus on proportional discovery, early case assessment, and efficient resolution strategies.

How would you use AI tools in legal operations while protecting confidentiality and professional judgment?

I would select approved tools based on security, data-handling, and vendor-review requirements, and limit use to appropriate data sets. AI output would be validated by qualified legal professionals, with clear guardrails for accuracy, bias, privilege, transparency, and human decision-making.
