About the Role:

We are seeking a strategic, process-driven Director of Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) with a strong focus on operations planning, resource management, and labor modeling. This role owns the integrated planning function responsible for translating business strategy into executable operational plans that balance capacity and labor against service and cost targets. This is a highly visible leadership role, setting the operations planning strategy and partnering directly with senior leadership across the organization to shape network-wide decisions. Additionally this role will be responsible for evolving the department – partnering with cross functional teams to create newer and more accurate models that leverage industry best practices and expertise.

You Will:

  • Own the Operations Planning Strategy: Set the vision and governance for the S&OP process, chairing the weekly S&OP meeting and driving alignment between demand signals and executable operations plans across the network.

    • Define the KPI framework and accountability structure that governs plan execution across sites and functions.

  • Fulfillment Capacity Strategy: Own medium- to long-range capacity planning across the network, setting the strategy for personnel, equipment, and material capabilities, and making the call on when network routing or footprint changes are needed.

  • Labor & Resource Planning Leadership:

    • Own the translation of volume plans into required hours by role and process path, and the labor models that drive it.

    • Serve as the primary executive partner to HR, Finance, and Operations leadership in aligning staffing strategy with operational demand across the network.

    • Develop and recommend the long-range workforce strategy by anticipating volume trends, seasonal spikes, and the labor impact of strategic initiatives.

    • Provide recommendations on cross-training, temporary staffing, and overtime strategy based on network-wide capacity constraints.

  • Operational Scenario Modeling: Direct scenario planning to simulate the impact of volume changes, labor availability, or supply disruptions, and translate the results into leadership recommendations and contingency plans.

  • Cross-Functional & Executive Alignment: Serve as the primary point of accountability across compounding, dispense and fulfillment, planning, and finance to ensure operational readiness, resolving cross-functional trade-offs and escalations.

  • Process Optimization: Set the roadmap for continuous improvement in planning processes and models, driving initiatives that improve modeling accuracy, increase efficiency or increase visibility.

  • Performance Management & Reporting: Own the dashboard and KPI strategy for plan adherence, resource utilization, labor efficiency, and production performance, and use it to drive decisions at the leadership level.

  • Executive Communication & Influence: Present operational insights and capacity trade-offs to executive leadership as needed, shaping strategic decisions on network investment, staffing, and capacity.

  • Team Leadership & Development: Build, lead, and develop a team of planners and analysts, establishing career paths and elevating planning capability across the organization.

You Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Supply Chain, or related field (MBA or Master’s preferred).

  • 12+ years of experience in operations planning, resource management, or labor modeling in a manufacturing, warehouse, or industrial setting.

  • 8+ years of people leadership experience, including managing teams larger than 6.

  • Proven track record setting operations planning strategy at a multi-site or network level.

  • Expertise in workforce planning, labor forecasting, and operational planning, with deep fluency in translating data into executive-level strategy.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with advanced skills using tools such as Excel, Power BI, Tableau, or labor planning software.

  • Excellent executive presence and communication skills, with a demonstrated track record of influencing C-suite/senior leadership decisions.

  • Experience leading the implementation or selection of labor planning tools or workforce management systems at scale.

Our Benefits (there are more but here are some highlights):

  • Competitive salary & equity compensation for full-time roles

  • Unlimited PTO, company holidays, and quarterly mental health days

  • Comprehensive health benefits including medical, dental & vision, and parental leave

  • Employee Stock Purchase Program (ESPP)

  • 401k benefits with employer matching contribution

Sample interview questions
How would you build an integrated S&OP process for a multi-site fulfillment network?

I would establish a recurring planning cadence that combines demand forecasts, inventory and supply constraints, site capacity, labor availability, and service targets. I would define common assumptions, decision rights, KPI owners, and escalation paths, then use the forum to document trade-offs and convert approved decisions into site-level execution plans.

Describe how you translate volume forecasts into labor requirements.

I segment volume by process path, site, shift, and relevant complexity drivers, then apply validated productivity standards and staffing assumptions to calculate required hours. I compare requirements with available capacity, model overtime, cross-training, and contingent-labor options, and monitor forecast accuracy and actual productivity to recalibrate the model.

What KPIs would you use to evaluate operational plan execution?

I would use forecast accuracy, plan adherence, capacity utilization, labor fill rate, labor efficiency, overtime percentage, service-level attainment, backlog, throughput, and cost per unit. The metrics should be reviewed at network and site levels so leaders can distinguish systemic constraints from local execution issues.

Tell us about a time you influenced executives to make a capacity or workforce investment.

I would present a fact-based scenario analysis showing the service, cost, and risk implications of maintaining the current plan versus investing in additional capacity. The recommendation would state assumptions, sensitivity ranges, implementation timing, and clear decision points, enabling executives to choose an option aligned with growth and customer-service objectives.

How would you improve an existing labor-planning model that stakeholders do not trust?

I would first audit source data, process definitions, productivity assumptions, and the gap between planned and actual outcomes. I would involve site operators in validating the model, prioritize the largest accuracy drivers, and release improvements iteratively with transparent performance reporting so users can see how model recommendations are generated and validated.
