About this role.
An opportunity to help patients who have run out of options
For many people living with chronic pain, the journey has been long. They have tried multiple medications, procedures and therapies, yet their pain continues to impact every aspect of daily life. By the time they reach us, many are looking for another option where conventional treatment has fallen short.
We are Montu UK, one of the UK’s largest medical cannabis clinics, and we are looking for Consultants specialising in Pain Management to join our clinical team.
About the role
You will assess and manage patients exploring cannabis based medicines, making the clinical decision on whether treatment is appropriate and managing their care from there. This is an evolving area of medicine where the evidence base continues to grow, giving you the opportunity to help shape how cannabis based medicines are used within pain management in the UK.
You do not need previous experience with cannabis based medicines. We are looking for experienced Pain Management Consultants with sound clinical judgement, an open mind and a genuine interest in improving outcomes for patients with complex chronic pain. We provide comprehensive specialist training, and our multidisciplinary model means you are never working in isolation. Nurses and pharmacists complete pre consultation and follow up prescribing tasks, allowing you to focus on clinical decision making and patient care.
What you will be doing:
Provide high quality care for patients seeking medical cannabis treatment.
Conduct patient consultations, including assessment and ongoing management.
Engage in clinical outcome data collection to support evidence based practices.
Contribute to clinical governance and maintain robust patient care standards.
Collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team, including nurses and pharmacists.
Participate in ongoing training and professional development, including bespoke specialist training in cannabis based medicines (CBMPs).
What you need:
Full GMC Registration
Completion of Specialist Training (CCST/CCT) or equivalent certification
On the GMC Specialist Register for Pain
Demonstrated interest in alternative therapies
Willingness to participate in data collection and reporting

Sample interview questions
I would take a structured history of the pain condition, prior treatments, functional impact, comorbidities, current medicines, mental-health factors, and potential contraindications. I would discuss the evidence, limitations, risks, and realistic goals with the patient, then document a shared clinical decision and establish a monitoring plan.
I use a consistent clinical assessment framework, verify patient identity and relevant medical information, document rationale clearly, and set explicit follow-up and escalation arrangements. I would work closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure medication reconciliation, monitoring, and patient education are completed reliably.
I acknowledge the patient’s experience, reassess the diagnosis and treatment history, and focus on function as well as pain intensity. I explore biopsychosocial contributors, identify modifiable risks, and agree on a realistic, individualised management plan with regular review points.
I view outcome data as essential for evaluating safety, effectiveness, and patient experience. I would collect standardised measures consistently, review trends at patient and service level, and use findings to refine protocols while maintaining confidentiality and data quality.
I would establish clear responsibilities, communication channels, and escalation criteria. I value nursing and pharmacy expertise in pre-consultation preparation, education, and follow-up, while ensuring that prescribing decisions, clinical rationale, and accountability remain appropriately governed.
