Sample interview questions
How would you design a data-governance solution for a federal agency with strict security requirements?

I would begin with stakeholder discovery to define mission objectives, data domains, ownership, classification, and compliance constraints. I would then create a phased architecture covering cataloging, stewardship workflows, metadata integration, access controls, auditability, and measurable adoption outcomes aligned with applicable FedRAMP and FISMA controls.

Describe your approach to integrating an enterprise data-governance platform with existing federal data systems.

I would assess source systems, identity patterns, network boundaries, API capabilities, metadata quality, and operational ownership. I would design secure integrations using documented REST APIs, automation, service accounts, and controlled deployment pipelines, then validate them through iterative testing and clear operational handoff documentation.

How do you lead a solution-design workshop with both executive and technical stakeholders?

I establish the workshop goals, decisions needed, and success measures in advance, then tailor discussion depth for each audience. I use current-state and target-state artifacts to align stakeholders, capture assumptions and risks, and finish with prioritized requirements, owners, and an actionable delivery plan.

What experience do you have with cloud and containerized platforms relevant to this role?

I would explain hands-on experience designing or supporting workloads on AWS or Azure, including Kubernetes-based deployment patterns, networking, identity, observability, and automation. I would also describe how I balance platform standards with customer-specific security and operational constraints.

How would you address a client issue involving unreliable data pipelines or poor data quality?

I would first isolate whether the issue originates in source data, transformation logic, orchestration, integration connectivity, or governance ownership. I would implement monitoring and remediation controls, define accountable data owners and quality rules, and communicate a phased recovery plan that resolves the immediate issue while preventing recurrence.
