Sample interview questions
How would you build a communications plan for a federal training conference?

I would begin with the event objectives, priority audiences, milestones, approval requirements, and registration targets. I would then create a communications calendar covering invitations, reminders, speaker communications, event logistics, and follow-up messages, with clear owners, review deadlines, and performance measures.

How do you ensure communications are accurate and ready for Government approval?

I use a structured review workflow with version control, source verification, editorial checklists, and defined approval gates. Before submission, I confirm factual accuracy, audience appropriateness, grammar, branding, links, dates, and any required accessibility elements.

Describe how you would improve registrations for an event that is underperforming.

I would review registration data by audience segment, channel, timing, and message performance to identify gaps. I would test more targeted outreach, clarify the value proposition, strengthen calls to action, engage partners or speakers for amplification, and adjust reminder cadence while monitoring results.

What steps do you take to make digital communications Section 508 conformant?

I ensure documents and web content use logical heading structures, descriptive link text, accessible color contrast, meaningful alt text, readable tables, and properly tagged PDFs where applicable. I also validate materials with accessibility tools and manual review before final submission.

How do you manage several urgent deliverables with competing stakeholder feedback?

I prioritize work against event deadlines, approval dependencies, and audience impact, then maintain a transparent tracker for status, owners, and due dates. I consolidate feedback where possible, clarify conflicting comments promptly, and communicate risks early so decisions can be made without delaying release.
