About the Role:
As Director of Product Strategy, Monetization & Operations, you will own the commercial and financial engine of Motive’s R&D organization. You will lead revenue, pricing, packaging, margin, and cost-reduction efforts across Product and Engineering, and pair that near-term revenue strategy with the long-term product and company strategy that sets Motive’s direction. You will report to the Sr. Director of Product, build your own team, and work daily with senior leaders across the company.
You are an exceptional partner and a rigorous analyst: someone who earns trust across Product, Engineering, Finance, and Go-to-Market, and who turns complex data into clear decisions. You are comfortable moving between a financial model and a multi-year strategy, and you take ownership of results, not just recommendations.
What You’ll Do:
- Drive revenue expansion strategy for Motive’s core and growing suite of software SKUs, and own pricing and packaging governance from analysis through launch and measurement.
- Define how Motive views and manages the cost of R&D spend across devices, cellular, IoT, and software services, and own the cost data foundation behind product-level margin and COGS.
- Partner with product line leaders to identify and deliver revenue generation & cost-reduction initiatives that improve gross margin.
- Size new product lines and adjacencies, and work with product leadership to run proofs of concept and decide whether to bring new products to market.
- Shape long-term product and company strategy, turning market, customer, and competitive insight into multi-year plans and investment choices.
- Run the operating cadence for R&D strategy, including planning, business reviews, and executive reporting.
- Hire, build, and lead a team of strategy and operations professionals.
What We’re Looking For:
- 2+ years of experience in management consulting or investment banking.
- 5+ years of operating experience in a business operations or corporate strategy role.
- Advanced financial modeling skills, with the ability to turn analysis into clear recommendations for executives.
- Track record of driving measurable business outcomes, such as revenue, margin, or cost, rather than recommendations alone.
- Proven success partnering and influencing across functions and levels without direct authority.
- Experience hiring, developing, and leading a team.

Sample interview questions
I would start with customer segmentation, willingness-to-pay research, competitive positioning, product usage data, and unit economics. I would model pricing and packaging scenarios against revenue, retention, adoption, gross margin, and sales complexity, then pilot the strongest options with clear success metrics before scaling.
I would explain the baseline, the financial model, stakeholder alignment process, and the operational changes made. A strong example should quantify the impact on revenue, margin, cost, or efficiency and show how results were monitored after implementation.
I would define a consistent cost taxonomy, map direct and allocated costs to products and customer cohorts, validate data sources with Finance and Engineering, and establish governance for refreshes. The resulting dashboards would connect unit economics to pricing, roadmap, vendor, and investment decisions.
I establish shared goals, use transparent data and decision frameworks, and tailor communication to each function's priorities. I create regular operating forums with explicit owners, trade-offs, and follow-up metrics so recommendations become jointly owned decisions.
I would assess customer pain points, addressable market, strategic fit, competitive differentiation, technical feasibility, expected unit economics, go-to-market requirements, and opportunity cost. I would recommend staged validation through a proof of concept with predefined investment gates and measurable success criteria.
