Sample interview questions
How do you identify why a student is struggling with a math problem?

I ask the student to explain their thinking step by step, then use a few targeted questions to locate the exact concept or process causing difficulty. I address that gap with a simple explanation and guided practice before asking the student to solve a similar problem independently.

How would you adapt a lesson for students with different learning styles?

I combine verbal explanations, worked examples, visuals, and guided practice. I adjust the pace and level of scaffolding based on the student’s responses, gradually reducing support as their confidence and accuracy improve.

How do you keep an online tutoring session engaging?

I make sessions interactive by asking frequent check-in questions, inviting students to explain their reasoning, using a digital whiteboard or visual examples, and connecting problems to goals that matter to the student. I also provide specific encouragement for effort and progress.

How would you communicate a student’s progress to a parent?

I would provide a concise, constructive update that highlights concepts the student has improved, remaining areas of focus, and practical next steps. I would use clear, respectful language and focus on observable learning evidence rather than general impressions.

How do you manage a flexible schedule when session bookings vary by demand?

I would submit accurate weekly availability, keep my calendar current, and prepare efficiently for booked sessions. I would maintain reliable response and attendance habits while reserving sufficient time to review student needs and session materials.
