Come join us and help shape a safer, simpler digital future.

As a Senior IT Engineer on the IT Engineering team, you’ll shape how identity and access work across 1Password. You’ll lead Identity and Access Management (IAM) initiatives, improve our Okta environment, and help expand Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled workflows across IT. Your work will make secure access simpler and more reliable, helping advance 1Password’s mission to create a safer, simpler digital future for everyone.

How we’re using AI today

Our Engineering, Product, and Design teams are thoughtfully integrating AI across the full software and product development lifecycle to move faster without sacrificing quality or security. In practice, that looks like engineers using AI-assisted coding tools to accelerate reviews and catch bugs earlier, product managers synthesizing user research at scale, and designers rapidly prototyping and iterating with AI-generated mockups. We approach AI the same way we approach security: with clear principles, human accountability at every consequential decision point, and rigorous evaluation before anything ships to customers.

This is a remote opportunity within Canada and the US.

What we’re looking for:

• Bring substantial experience in a technical IT role, including experience in IT engineering or systems administration.

• Administer Okta or a comparable Identity Provider (IdP), such as Microsoft Entra ID, in a production environment.

• Apply identity protocols including Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML), OpenID Connect (OIDC), and System for Cross-domain Identity Management (SCIM) to connect applications.

• Build integrations and automation using Representational State Transfer (REST) APIs and scripting languages such as Python and Bash.

• Use infrastructure or configuration as code with Git-based workflows, including pull requests and code review.

• Demonstrate experience applying AI to accelerate or replace team workflows, while managing project timelines, risks, stakeholder communication, and organizational change.

• Bring experience managing an IdP with Terraform, using 1Password Enterprise and Device Trust, or supporting Service Organization Control 2 (SOC 2), Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX), or ISO 27001 audits.

What you can expect:

• Operate and improve Okta, including tenant configuration, policies, lifecycle management, and complex identity issues.

• Lead IAM initiatives from concept through rollout, including role-based access control, access reviews, and onboarding and offboarding automation.

• Build safeguards that make identity and access changes safer to deploy and easier to audit.

• Design durable application integrations using SAML, OIDC, SCIM, and custom API work where needed.

• Simplify access requests and employee lifecycle processes so secure workflows are also efficient workflows.

• Partner with IT, Security, and Device Infrastructure teams to plan rollouts, manage risk, establish identity practices, and support audit and compliance work.

• Participate in the on-call rotation and provide clear guidance on identity and access questions across 1Password.

Sample interview questions
How have you managed and improved an Okta environment in production?

I have managed tenant configuration, authentication and sign-on policies, application assignments, lifecycle workflows, and troubleshooting for complex identity issues. I prioritize least privilege, documented change control, monitoring, and repeatable configuration through automation where possible.

Describe how you would design an integration for a new SaaS application using SAML, OIDC, or SCIM.

I would first evaluate the application’s authentication and provisioning capabilities, security requirements, user populations, and role model. I would use SAML or OIDC for SSO based on compatibility and security needs, implement SCIM for automated provisioning where supported, validate attribute mappings and deprovisioning, then test rollout controls and document support procedures.

How would you use Terraform to make IAM changes safer and more auditable?

I would define identity-provider configuration as code in version-controlled repositories, require pull requests and peer review, and use CI checks and controlled deployment pipelines. This creates an auditable history of policy and application changes, reduces manual drift, and enables reliable rollback when needed.

How do you approach access reviews and role-based access control at scale?

I begin by identifying authoritative identity sources, business roles, sensitive systems, and entitlement owners. I then define role mappings around least privilege, automate joiner-mover-leaver workflows, run periodic owner-certified access reviews, and track remediation through clear evidence and metrics.

Tell us about a time you used automation or AI to improve an IT workflow while managing risk.

I would identify a repetitive, measurable workflow with appropriate safeguards, such as request triage or configuration validation, and pilot automation with human review points. I would measure accuracy, turnaround time, and exceptions, document risks and ownership, and only expand adoption after demonstrating that security and operational controls remain effective.
