The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to fighting blood cancers worldwide. Founded in 1949 by Rudolph and Antoinette de Villiers after the loss of their son Robert to leukemia, LLS has grown into the world’s largest voluntary health agency focused on blood cancers. The organization funds blood cancer research, provides free information and support services, and advocates for patients seeking access to quality and affordable care.
Headquartered in Rye Brook, New York, LLS operates 27 regional offices across the United States and five in Canada. Since its inception, LLS has raised and donated more than $1.7 billion to blood cancer research. The organization’s mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease, and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life for patients and their families.
LLS offers a range of services, including the Information Resource Center, which provides patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals with accurate, up-to-date disease information, resources, and support. The organization also funds research in areas of unmet medical need and helps bridge the gap between academic discovery and drug development.
In 2023, LLS announced E. Anders Kolb as its President and Chief Executive Officer. The organization has been recognized for its transparency and efficiency, holding a four-star rating with Charity Navigator in 2023, scoring 97%.
