The Teams:
This group’s mission is to build out platform technologies to support group service providers, external developers and internal developers in order ultimately help our SP’s be more successful. As a manager within Platform you’ll manage two of the following teams, depending on your skillset:
- Automations: This team empowers internal product teams by building core automation capabilities—your work will directly multiply engineering efficiency across Jobber.
- Channels: Focused on enabling franchise organizations to scale, Channels builds robust systems for managing complex account structures. You’ll solve real-world problems for customers with intricate operational needs.
- Platform Experience: This team is the face of Jobber for third-party developers. You’ll help shape how external apps integrate with Jobber, supporting long-term ecosystem growth through developer experience, APIs, and extensibility tooling.
The role:
As a leader and technical expert in Software Engineering, you’ll manage two teams of 5 talented intermediate, Senior and Staff level engineers to ensure our Platform teams continue delivering value to our stakeholders. You’ll work closely with engineers, design and product to ensure the roadmap for each team balances quality, maintainability, innovation and speed.
Reporting to a Senior Manager, Software Engineering, the Manager, Software Engineering will work with members of your teams to support and develop their skills and career, as we work together to empower small businesses. In addition, you will be heavily involved in the technical direction of our platform, building it out to be reliable and performant as the company grows.
The Manager, Software Engineering will:
- Live and breathe performance facilitation. You want to work with your team(s) to help them master their individual crafts, while also collaborating to build extraordinary experiences and systems.
- Be committed to the success of your people. You will help them set goals, have regular 1-on-1s, and provide constructive feedback and coaching to ensure your team’s success. You’ll work to understand employees’ career direction and work to empower their journey by acting as a mentor and coach.
- Develop a world-class team alongside a world-class organization. You’ll participate in recruiting events and the hiring process while also working to level up your internal team while implementing new processes, all to develop a world-class engineering department.
- Remove roadblocks and build guardrails. You’ll work with the other leaders to create and maintain an environment where people can rapidly produce top-quality work that ultimately helps our customers be successful.
- Collaborate with other stakeholders across the business. Whether it’s our Management teams within Product, or our Business Technology teams, you’re working closely with other Jobberinos to find the best solutions in Jobber for small businesses.
- Collaborate with external technology partners. We work with a variety of external developers looking to integrate closely with Jobber to provide value to our mutual customer base.
To be successful, you should have:
- A track record of success in being an established software engineer, as well as time spent in a leadership position, guiding a team in the delivery of quality software.
- Strong full-stack technical background, including design and architectural experience.
- The ability to be agile in an agile environment. You’ll need to be able to lead and teach your team to adapt to change, while also thinking critically and creatively to find answers to problems.
- Effective written and oral communication. Being transparent with your team and establishing an open dialogue will be a key to success in supporting your coaching conversations and discussions.
- Collaboration down to an art. You’ll work with your direct reports or other teams to understand what they want to accomplish and develop a plan to achieve it.
- To be a leader and mentor. You’ll bring your shared experience into conversations to influence and provide constructive feedback to direct reports throughout the journey to ensure goals are being met and exceeded.
Highly desired, but not a dealbreaker:
- Previous experience with our development stack: Postgres, Ruby on Rails, GraphQL (GraphQL-Ruby even better!), TypeScript and React.
- Automations systems, if-this-then-that style platforms.
- Previous experience working on internal-facing platform teams.
Compensation:
At Jobber, we also believe that compensation should be transparent, fair, and supportive of your experience and growth. This role has a minimum annual salary of $169,200 CAD, a midpoint of $199,100 CAD, and a maximum salary of $228,900 CAD, designed to reflect the progression from learning the ropes to truly excelling.
We design our compensation to reflect each new hire’s skills, experience, and the complexity of the role, ensuring a fair and competitive salary. Our range is intentionally broad to support growth and long-term impact, with fully established hires typically starting around the midpoint. The higher end of the range is reserved for those who have demonstrated deep expertise and lasting contributions, while offers below the midpoint reflect strong potential with room to develop. This approach ensures that compensation aligns with both an individual’s current capabilities and their opportunity for future growth.
