About the Job

At Red Hat, we connect an innovative community of customers, partners, and contributors to deliver an open source stack of trusted, high-performing technologies that solve real-world business problems. We’re a multi-billion dollar S&P 500 company offering solutions from Linux to middleware, storage to cloud – backed by award-winning global customer support, consulting, and implementation services.

The OpenShift team is looking for a Software Engineer to help re-invent the way development is done. Working on OpenShift means being passionate about technology and development while taking ownership of running a hosted service. We’re building a next-generation development platform that leverages the strength of Red Hat technologies, hosted in the cloud, to fundamentally improve how developers work.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in fast-paced, collaborative environments and is motivated to make a significant impact with every release. We’re not your typical 9-to-5 team—we love what we do, and we work hard to be the best.

What You Will Do

  • Be a key contributor on our East Coast-based OpenShift Networking Engineering team.

  • Focus on Networking Ingress and DNS within the OpenShift environment, particularly around the next-generation Ingress built on Gateway API standards.

  • Help select effective frameworks and integrate the right ecosystem components to improve the developer experience.

  • Collaborate with other Red Hat teams and the broader open source community.

  • Represent OpenShift engineering in upstream efforts and community discussions.

  • Communicate effectively with engineers, product managers, and leadership across the globe.

  • Prioritize, plan, and contribute code that supports OpenShift’s networking capabilities.

What You Will Bring

  • Experience with or strong interest in Kubernetes and cloud-native technologies, particularly around Gateway API and/or it’s Istio implementation.

  • Understanding of networking protocols, HTTP protocols, DNS systems, and encryption methodologies.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

  • A self-motivated, inclusive, and collaborative mindset.

  • Comfort working in a dynamic, fast-paced, global team environment.

  • Ability to work independently and take initiative to explore and solve technical challenges.

The Following Are Considered a Plus

  • Experience with OpenShift, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, or Fedora.

  • Familiarity with HAProxy, CoreDNS, Envoy Proxy, or similar technologies.

  • Practical knowledge of Gateway API specifications and tools like Istio.

  • Skills in network debugging tools and techniques.

  • Understanding of large-scale LAMP architectures and deployment techniques.

  • Participation in open source or upstream communities.

  • Advanced degree (e.g., MS in Computer Science or related field).
