Job Description

About the Security Group

Canva’s goal is to create the world’s most trusted platform, which makes security a top priority. The Digital Forensics & Incident Response (DFIR) team plays a critical role in safeguarding Canva’s systems, data, and the information our users entrust to us. The DFIR team supports Detection & Response’s mission to prevent, detect and respond to cyber attacks against Canva, Canvanauts and Canva users. We engage in both proactive and reactive activities to prevent, detect, and respond to security threats.

We are seeking an experienced incident responder to join the DFIR team. In addition to the technical aspects of the role, you will play a pivotal part in shaping the future of our DFIR team, providing technical investigation and incident coordination experience, and contributing to a culture where we work with empathy, humility, and generosity. As a Senior Security Engineer, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with some of the brightest minds in the industry, driving initiatives that enhance Canva’s security posture and the Incident Response team’s capabilities.

The Security Group, under which Detection & Response sits, is responsible for protecting Canva systems and data from information security threats. Our teams work together and with other groups to deliver preventative and detective controls and processes that reduce security risk across the business. The group runs programmes across Internal Corporate Security, Identity and Access Management, Application Security, Risk Management, Threat Intelligence, Red Team, and Threat Detection and Response domains.

At the moment, this role is focused on

  • Acting as an escalation point and incident coordinator for security incidents across Canva’s systems.
  • Actively responding to security events from detection through to resolution, including the rollout of solutions and mitigations to prevent a recurrence.
  • Monitoring Canva’s internal and production systems for possible attacks and intrusions.
  • Contributing to the knowledge and experience of your peers on the security team
  • Proactively run threat detection exercises and search for anomalous behaviour.
  • Building out and developing the tools and foundations for security incident alerting, management, communication, and response.
  • Maintaining incident response documentation, participating in post-incident reviews, and contributing to incident reports.
  • Participating in the on-call roster for security incident response.
  • Identifying trends, research, new technologies, and emerging threats models, which may impact the business.

You’re probably a match if

  • You have strong experience in security incident response and coordinating complex investigations.
  • You’re confident in building and maintaining security tooling and infrastructure.
  • You love mentoring and developing others and have experience leading small technical teams.
  • You’re passionate about improving systems and processes to prevent future incidents.
  • You’re comfortable working with cross-functional teams and communicating clearly under pressure.
  • You bring empathy, humility, and generosity to everything you do.

What’s in it for you?

Achieving our crazy big goals motivates us to work hard – and we do – but you’ll experience lots of moments of magic, connectivity and fun woven throughout life at Canva, too. We also offer a range of benefits to set you up for every success in and outside of work.

Here’s a taste of what’s on offer:
• Equity packages – we want our success to be yours too
• Inclusive parental leave policy that supports all parents & carers
• An annual Vibe & Thrive allowance to support your wellbeing, social connection, office setup & more
• Flexible leave options that empower you to be a force for good, take time to recharge and support you personally
