MANTECH seeks a motivated, career and customer-oriented Conservation GIS Analyst to join our team in Lompoc, CA. This is a full-time remote position.
Join our small team of biologists, ecologists, environmental planners, and GIS professionals based out of California who work on federal contracts with various military installations across the Western region. This satellite team works with military and civilian personnel on federal landholdings to manage land and wildlife responsibly and effectively for conservation.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Create high-quality, aesthetically pleasing map products in ArcGIS Desktop & ArcGIS Pro for project reports, proposals, communicating conservation objectives, and informing planning efforts
Create and maintain geospatial processes, scripts (primarily Python), and workflows and help build the conservation team’s geospatial data collection and processing capacity
Support field staff by setting up data collection methods in ArcGIS Field Maps and Survey123 for ArcGIS
Support field staff with troubleshooting various geospatial hardware and software and train staff to access data and use geospatial tools
Collaborate with field staff to assure quality control, update, and publish data within the ArcGIS Online environment
Manage and maintain geospatial databases
Lead the assembly and summary of project metrics in coordination with managers and other office staff, especially regarding monthly reports and quarterly summaries
Build relationships and work with stakeholders to develop regionally implemented GIS data collection protocols
Research and development work, e.g., integrating new technologies into data collection and management
Minimum Qualifications:
An associates degree in GIS. A GIS Certificate (from either a university or community college) with 3+ years of relevant GIS or data science professional work experience may substitute for a degree
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Word, Power Point), specifically pivot tables in Excel
Python coding ability
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Cartography, Data Science, Conservation Biology, Environmental Studies, Ecology, Natural Resource Management, or other similar degrees. 5+ years of relevant GIS professional work experience, data science may substitute for work experience with a lesser amount of time in geospatial sciences allowable.
Cartography experience
Statistical background and experience in software packages such as R or Stata
Experience with data conversion, projections and transformations, and ability to create spatial data from non-spatial data
Experience with complex spatial modeling, including the use of Model Builder and Python Scripting to automate geoprocessing. Knowledge of other programming languages (e.g., Arcade) is a plus
Ability to work independently with limited supervision AND to work well within a team environment
Ability to self-manage multiple projects while keeping track of project deadlines

The person in this position must be able to remain in a stationary position up to 90% of the time. Occasionally move about inside the office to operate other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine and computer printer.
The projected compensation range for this position is $59,100.00-$98,000.00. There are differentiating factors that can impact a final salary/hourly rate, including, but not limited to, Contract Wage Determination, relevant work experience, skills and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location (For Remote Opportunities), education and certifications as well as Federal Government Contract Labor categories.
