It is an exciting time to join our emerging tax controversy team as a foundational member. And the broader Tax Team is a close-knit group of rigorous tax professionals who have each othersโ€™ backs and are a little bit silly.ย

About the Role

The Tax Controversy and Audit Management team is looking for a Senior Manager to help lead and manage our U.S. federal, state and international income tax audits/controversies.. This role will report to the Director of Transfer Pricing and Tax Controversy, and will be an integral part of the broader DoorDash tax team.

Your primary responsibility will be the daily management of our global income tax audits and related controversy matters. In particular, you will be taking a leadership role in our IRS and state income tax audits. You will also provide integral assistance on setting our tax controversy and audit strategies. You will also support other tax planning, income tax provision and reporting matters as needed, including the review and assessment of potential reserve positions as they relate to key tax controversy matters. You will work closely with Tax, Accounting, Finance, Legal and other business teams. You will scale processes for growth, taking them from manual to automated where appropriate.ย

Youโ€™re excited about this opportunity because you willโ€ฆ

  • Manage and resolve tax audits, appeals, and disputes with federal, state, and international tax authorities.โ€ฏ
  • Develop and implement effective strategies for tax controversy resolution including audits, notice responses, debt resolution, and penalty abatement requests.
  • Take the lead in gathering information for, and document requests of, tax authorities.
  • With the assistance of our tax technology teams, design, develop and implement automated solutions and strategies for the collection, analysis and review of the companyโ€™s data relevant to its tax audits and disputes.
  • Lead and manage our external relationships with outside counsel and tax advisors as they relate to new and ongoing tax controversy matters and audits.
  • Review and edit written correspondence with the income tax authorities, including the IRS, non-U.S. and state income tax authorities.ย
  • Research, address, and consult on technical issues specific to IRS practice and procedural issues including tax, penalty and interest assessments, statutes of limitation for refunds and assessments, missed elections, and IRS examination and IRS appeals matters.
  • Assist on IRS account issues, corrections and reconciliations.
  • Conduct thorough research and analysis of tax laws, regulations, and case law to support positions taken in controversies.โ€ฏ
  • Identify and assess potential tax risks and develop strategies to mitigate those risks.โ€ฏ
  • Lead and mentor a team of tax professionals, providing guidance on complex tax issues and fostering a collaborative work environment.โ€ฏ
  • Prepare internal technical memoranda and reports detailing findings and recommendations.โ€ฏ
  • Ensure compliance with tax regulations and reporting requirements.โ€ฏ
  • Stay updated on industry trends and changes in tax legislation that may impact the company.โ€ฏ

Weโ€™re excited about you becauseโ€ฆ

  • You have 8+ years of experience in a government (IRS), law firm, Big 4 accounting firm, or corporate tax role with leading and managing income tax controversy and audit matters, as well as experience with income tax provision (ASC 740) and/or income tax compliance, with the ideal candidate having technology industry experience. IRS experience is also a plus.
  • Particular expertise in IRS audit procedures and practices, with a strong track record of managing audits, exams, Appeals and settlements.
  • Familiarity with US tax implications of international operations, including local statutory to GAAP adjustments.
  • You have experience with state income/franchise tax, sales and use tax, gross receipts taxes, and related state-level issues, along with strong strategic thinking and negotiation skills.
  • You have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • You have begun to utilize artificial intelligence tools.
  • You have Excel modeling experience.
  • You have experience with tax provision software.
  • You are meticulous in preparing and reviewing your work product.
  • You are analytical and organized in your approach to project-management and resolving obstacles in your workstreams.
  • You roll up your sleeves and do whatever is necessary to drive results, even if it’s outside your normal areas of focus.
  • You approach your role with a strong moral compass and integrity.

We expect this position to be filled by 5/24/26.
