Dear Hiring Manager,

I am excited to apply for the Mobile Software Engineer (Android) position at Feedzai. With over 3 years of experience developing high-performance Android applications and a deep understanding of the Android ecosystem, I am confident in my ability to contribute to your mission of securing global commerce. I have a proven track record of delivering robust SDKs and collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive scalable solutions.

At my previous role, I led the development of a mobile SDK that reduced integration time by 40%, and I consistently championed engineering excellence through code reviews and mentoring. My expertise in Kotlin, Java, and CI/CD pipelines aligns perfectly with the requirements of this role. I am particularly drawn to Feedzai's focus on machine learning and real-time fraud detection, and I am eager to bring my skills to your innovative team.

Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to the opportunity to discuss how I can contribute to Feedzai's success.

Sincerely,
[Your Name]

Can you describe a complex Android SDK you designed from scratch? What were the key architectural decisions and trade-offs?
I designed a payment SDK that needed to be lightweight and secure. I chose a modular architecture with separate layers for networking, cryptography, and UI. Key trade-offs included using a custom protocol buffer over JSON for performance, and implementing token-based authentication to avoid storing sensitive data. I also ensured backward compatibility by using feature flags.
How do you ensure the security of an Android application, especially when dealing with financial transactions?
I implement multiple layers: use Android Keystore for encryption, apply certificate pinning to prevent MITM attacks, and use obfuscation with ProGuard. I also follow OWASP guidelines, perform regular security reviews, and use tools like SafetyNet to detect rooted devices. For communication, I enforce HTTPS with TLS 1.3.
Describe your experience with CI/CD for mobile apps. How do you ensure reliable releases?
I have used Jenkins and GitLab CI to automate builds, tests, and deployments. I set up pipelines that run unit tests, UI tests, and static analysis on every commit. For releases, I use feature toggles and staged rollouts to monitor crash rates. I also integrate with App Center for beta distribution and use automated signing.
How do you handle performance optimization in an Android SDK that must operate with ultra-low latency?
I profile using Android Studio tools and Firebase Performance Monitoring. I optimize by minimizing allocations, using lazy initialization, and leveraging coroutines for concurrency. For networking, I use connection pooling and caching. I also benchmark critical paths and set performance budgets to catch regressions.
Can you give an example of how you mentored a junior developer to improve their coding skills?
I paired with a junior developer on a feature to implement a custom view. I guided them through breaking down the problem, writing unit tests first (TDD), and refactoring for clarity. I also held code review sessions where I explained best practices like separation of concerns and naming conventions. Over time, their code quality improved significantly and they became more confident in making architectural decisions.
