Key Skills

Data Engineering BigQuery SQL ETL GA4 Data Modeling Looker Studio API Integration Data Warehousing Python

I am excited to apply for the Senior Data Analytics Engineer position. With over 5 years of experience in data engineering, I have a proven track record of building data warehouses from scratch and designing scalable ETL pipelines. My expertise in BigQuery, GA4 exports, and data modeling aligns perfectly with your need to transition to an automated reporting system.

I thrive in hands-on, architectural roles and have successfully integrated data from multiple sources to power BI tools like Looker Studio. I am adept at ensuring data quality and maintaining thorough documentation.

I am eager to bring my skills to your team and help build the foundational data infrastructure that drives actionable insights for your clients. Thank you for considering my application.

Describe a time you built a data warehouse from scratch. What was your approach and what challenges did you face?
I was tasked with building a data warehouse for a SaaS company. I started by understanding business needs and data sources, then designed a star schema in BigQuery. I used Airflow for ETL, handling incremental loads. Challenges included ensuring data consistency across sources and optimizing query performance.
How do you ensure data quality in your pipelines?
I implement data validation checks at each stage, such as row counts, null checks, and schema verification. I also set up monitoring alerts for failures and use dbt for testing. Regular audits and documentation help maintain quality.
Explain your experience with GA4 exports to BigQuery. How do you structure the data for reporting?
I have set up GA4 exports to BigQuery and used SQL to flatten event parameters. I create partitioned tables by date and define custom dimensions/metrics. For reporting, I build aggregated datasets that join with other sources like CRM.
How do you approach data modeling for a multi-tenant SaaS platform?
I design models with tenant isolation, using account_id as a partition key. I create views that filter by tenant for security. For scalability, I use incremental models and optimize for common query patterns like per-venue reports.
Can you discuss a complex data integration you managed involving multiple APIs?
I integrated data from a POS system, email marketing platform, and Google Ads. I built custom API connectors in Python, scheduled with Airflow. The main challenge was handling rate limits and data format differences. I normalized the data into a unified schema.

Job Summary

We are seeking a hands-on Data Engineer to design and build the foundational data infrastructure that will power a scalable, automated SaaS reporting system. This critical role focuses on transitioning the platform from manual dashboard creation to a robust reporting pipeline capable of supporting multiple client accounts, venues, and subscription tiers. The ideal candidate is an architectural builder at heart, bringing deep expertise in constructing data warehouses entirely from scratch, establishing ETL processing, and creating reporting-ready datasets that will enable future analysts and client-facing business intelligence tools to thrive.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build the reporting data architecture, structuring BigQuery datasets, tables, and views for scalable, multi-account, and multi-venue analytics.

  • Build and manage ingestion pipelines from multiple disparate data sources, utilizing APIs, webhooks, scheduled syncs, ETL/ELT tools, or custom scripts.

  • Set up and manage data exports from GA4 to BigQuery, establishing clean data relationships across all reporting entities including accounts, venues, campaigns, and subscription tiers.

  • Integrate diverse data streams including Google Tag Manager, CMS platforms, email and SMS marketing tools, receipt validation services, and POS systems.

  • Create clean SQL models to transform raw behavioral data and business metadata into reusable, reporting-ready tables.

  • Prepare foundational data models to power automated dashboards and client-facing analytics for various BI platforms like Looker Studio.

  • Establish comprehensive data quality assurance processes, validation checks, and actively monitor pipeline reliability.

  • Maintain clear, thorough documentation for schemas, data flows, transformations, reporting logic, and event taxonomies.

  • Partner cross-functionally with product and engineering teams to ensure tracking is implemented correctly and to support privacy-conscious data practices.

Qualifications and Job Requirements

  • 4+ years of professional experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, product analytics, or data analysis.

  • Demonstrated, hands-on experience building a data warehouse or reporting database entirely from scratch (this is a mandatory requirement for the role).

  • Strong proficiency in SQL and extensive experience structuring and managing BigQuery.

  • Proven ability to build, manage, and scale ETL or ELT data pipelines.

  • Deep understanding of event-based analytics and direct experience with GA4 to BigQuery exports.

  • Expertise in data modeling for analytics and the ability to create reporting-ready datasets for BI tools.

  • Experience working with APIs, webhooks, or scheduled data syncs to join data across multiple sources.

  • Exceptional documentation, data governance, and data QA habits.

  • Experience with Looker Studio, Looker Studio Pro, or other white-label reporting platforms (e.g., AgencyAnalytics, Databox, DashThis) is preferred.

  • Familiarity with modern data tools and scripting languages such as Python, Zapier, or Google Cloud Functions is a plus.

  • Experience defining GA4 event taxonomies and working with Google Tag Manager is highly advantageous.

  • Background in SaaS reporting, client-facing dashboards, or multi-tenant analytics is preferred.

  • Familiarity with marketing platforms, CMS tools (like Sanity CMS), marketing automation systems (like Mailchimp), or POS systems is a plus.

  • Prior experience in hospitality, retail, CPG, loyalty, rebates, or campaign attribution reporting is a strong plus.
