Cover letter sample
I am excited to apply for the Senior Site Reliability Engineer (Hardware Automation) position at Nebius. With a strong background in Linux systems, Python, and automation, I have successfully built and maintained reliable infrastructure at scale.
My experience includes troubleshooting complex hardware and software issues, implementing CI/CD pipelines, and designing high-load distributed systems. I thrive in fast-paced environments and value ownership and collaboration.
I am particularly drawn to Nebius's mission of building cloud infrastructure for the AI economy and the opportunity to work with a talented team. I am confident that my skills align well with the requirements and look forward to contributing to your innovative projects.
Sample interview questions
At my previous company, I automated firmware updates for thousands of servers using Python scripts and Ansible. Challenges included handling network failures and ensuring rollback safety. I implemented idempotent scripts and monitoring to verify successful updates, reducing manual effort by 90%.
I start by gathering metrics and logs from affected nodes, then isolate the problem using tools like traceroute, tcpdump, and monitoring dashboards. I check for patterns (e.g., latency spikes) and correlate with recent changes. Once identified, I apply a fix, often leveraging automation to roll out changes safely.
I would use a CI/CD tool like Jenkins or GitLab CI to build and test code changes. The pipeline would include linting, unit tests, integration tests using hardware simulators, and staged rollouts to a subset of servers. I'd incorporate approval gates for production deployments and integrate monitoring to detect regressions.
I employ redundancy at multiple levels: power supply, network paths, and server components. I implement health checks and auto-remediation using orchestration tools. Additionally, I use chaos engineering to test failover mechanisms and ensure graceful degradation. Logging and alerting help detect and respond to failures quickly.
I follow industry blogs, attend conferences like SREcon, and participate in open-source projects. I also experiment with new tools in my home lab and contribute to internal knowledge bases. Regularly reviewing postmortems and case studies helps me learn from others' experiences.
