Sample interview questions
How would you build a customer advocacy program from the ground up at Obsidian?

I would begin by defining advocacy goals tied to business outcomes, such as increasing qualified references, expanding customer proof points, and supporting retention and pipeline. I would segment customers by adoption, outcomes, strategic value, and willingness to participate, then create clear participation paths for quotes, references, webinars, events, and case studies. I would also establish consent, recognition, and feedback processes so the program provides clear value to customers as well as Obsidian.

What makes a customer case study effective in a cybersecurity market?

An effective cybersecurity case study is specific, credible, and outcome-led. It should clearly describe the customer’s risk or operational challenge, how the solution was deployed, and measurable results such as improved visibility, reduced response time, stronger governance, or lowered exposure. Strong executive quotes and a narrative that translates technical capabilities into business value are essential.

How would you collaborate with Customer Success and Sales to identify customer champions?

I would create a regular nomination process with Customer Success and Sales using defined criteria such as successful adoption, measurable outcomes, relationship health, renewal status, and comfort with public participation. I would review nominations jointly, prioritize opportunities by campaign and business need, and maintain a centralized advocate profile. Regular communication and transparent tracking would ensure teams know when and how to engage each advocate appropriately.

How would you measure the impact of customer marketing initiatives?

I would use a balanced scorecard that includes advocacy participation, active reference capacity, content engagement, event attendance, customer sentiment, and customer retention indicators. For revenue impact, I would track influenced pipeline, opportunities supported by references or customer proof, win rates, and sales-cycle effects where attribution is available. Reporting should combine quantitative performance with qualitative feedback from customers and internal stakeholders.

How would you tailor LinkedIn customer content for a technical SaaS security audience?

I would lead with a relevant customer challenge or market insight, use concise and credible language, and connect the story to practical security outcomes. Content would feature customer voice where approved, such as a quote, short video, or result-oriented visual, rather than making generic product claims. I would test formats and messaging by audience segment, then use engagement and conversion data to refine the content strategy.

Obsidian Security is the leading SaaS security platform, trusted by global enterprises like Snowflake, T-Mobile, and Algolia. We protect 200+ organizations across North America, Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand, including many of the world’s largest Fortune 1000 and Global 2000 companies.

Founded in 2017 and backed by top investors like Greylock, Obsidian was built to close a critical gap: securing SaaS apps where business happens—Microsoft 365, Salesforce, and hundreds more. The company does this by offering a complete SaaS security platform to reduce risk, detect and respond to threats, and prevent breaches at the source. Obsidian was built by leaders who redefined endpoint and identity security at CrowdStrike, Okta, Cylance, and Carbon Black. Now, they’re transforming how SaaS is secured.

With AI driving rapid SaaS growth and complexity, agentic AI tools gain privileged access to sensitive data through integrations, creating new risks most security tools miss. Obsidian uniquely detects anomalous OAuth token activity and manages integration risks. Major announcements are on the horizon. Recognizing that SaaS security needs to evolve, Obsidian enables growing organizations to start with a lightweight, prevention-focused browser extension and expand coverage over time.

With global momentum, a growing partner ecosystem including SentinelOne, Databricks, and Google Cloud, and a major fundraise ahead, Obsidian is scaling rapidly toward long-term growth and IPO readiness.
