Hubstaff is seeking a Staff DevOps Engineer to lead hands-on evolution of its cloud platform for a global remote-work SaaS product. The role centers on AWS and GCP infrastructure, Kubernetes, Terraform, GitOps, CI/CD, observability, security, resilience, and developer self-service. This is a senior technical position with substantial ownership of platform strategy and implementation in partnership with engineering leadership. The successful candidate will improve reliability, scalability, security, and engineering productivity across production systems. The position is permanent, full-time, and remote for candidates in North America, Canada, and Latin America.

I would establish reusable Terraform and Terragrunt modules with clear versioning, opinionated defaults, and documented interfaces. I would combine those modules with a GitOps-based review and deployment workflow, enforce policy controls in CI, and provide self-service templates for common workloads so teams can provision safely without duplicating platform work.
I start with workload health, capacity, and failure-mode analysis, then define practical SLOs for critical services. I implement resilient deployment patterns, autoscaling, resource requests and limits, backup and recovery procedures, and actionable alerting. I also run incident reviews to turn recurring operational issues into automated platform improvements.
I would define service-level indicators tied to user and platform outcomes, including availability, latency, error rate, saturation, and queue or database health. Metrics, logs, traces where available, dashboards, and alerts should share consistent labels and ownership. Alerts should be symptom-focused, actionable, and linked to runbooks to reduce noise and speed incident response.
I would enforce least-privilege IAM, short-lived credentials, secrets management, encryption in transit and at rest, network segmentation, and continuous vulnerability and configuration scanning. Infrastructure changes should be peer reviewed, policy checked in CI, auditable, and deployed through controlled pipelines. I would also regularly test backup restoration and incident-response processes.
I translate strategy into a small number of measurable platform outcomes, publish architecture decisions and roadmaps clearly, and prioritize high-leverage work that removes friction for product teams. I remain hands-on for complex designs and critical implementations while creating standards, documentation, and reusable tooling that allow others to operate independently. Async updates, written decision records, and transparent operational metrics keep stakeholders aligned.

The Role
We’re hiring a Staff DevOps Engineer to help shape the future of Hubstaff’s cloud platform.
This is a high-impact, fully remote role for an experienced infrastructure engineer who enjoys building secure, scalable, and highly automated systems. You’ll partner with our CTO, architects, and engineering teams to improve reliability, security, developer experience, and platform scalability across our global SaaS platform.
This isn’t a traditional operations role. We’re looking for someone who thrives on solving complex infrastructure challenges, automating everything possible, and building the internal platform that enables engineering teams to move faster.

What You’ll Do
Design and operate scalable cloud infrastructure across AWS and GCP.
Build and improve Kubernetes, Linux, and cloud networking environments.
Standardize infrastructure using Terraform, Terragrunt, Helm, and GitOps practices.
Improve CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions and ArgoCD.
Build monitoring, logging, and alerting using Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, CloudWatch, and Better Stack.

What Makes You Successful
You’ve built and operated production cloud infrastructure at scale using AWS (GCP experience is a plus).
You’re an expert in Terraform, Kubernetes (EKS), Docker, Helm, and modern GitOps practices.
You’ve built reliable CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, or similar tools.
You have experience supporting production PostgreSQL, Redis, and distributed systems.
You’ve implemented monitoring and observability using Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, CloudWatch, or similar platforms.
You understand networking, IAM, encryption, disaster recovery, and cloud security best practices.
You’re comfortable supporting applications built with Ruby on Rails, Go, Rust, or Node.js.
You enjoy solving complex infrastructure problems through automation and ownership.
