About this role.
This six-month remote contract seeks a seasoned Backend Java Engineer to strengthen and evolve infrastructure and services supporting Binance Kazakhstan and BigPay Fiat operations. The role focuses on designing secure, highly available, scalable Java microservices and APIs, while improving capacity planning, operational reliability, and cost efficiency. The engineer will troubleshoot production issues, optimize system performance, and contribute throughout the full service lifecycle from architecture through deployment and refinement. Success requires at least seven years of backend engineering experience, strong Java/Spring Boot expertise, distributed-systems knowledge, and fluency in English plus Kazakh or Russian for external stakeholder collaboration.

Sample interview questions
I would begin by defining availability, latency, consistency, and recovery objectives. The service would run stateless across multiple availability zones behind load balancing, use resilient data storage with replication and tested failover, and implement idempotency for payment requests. I would add timeouts, retries with backoff, circuit breakers, observability, and disaster-recovery procedures to protect both customers and financial operations.
I use idempotency keys, durable request records, and transaction states that allow the system to recognize repeated requests without repeating the financial effect. Where asynchronous processing is involved, I use unique event identifiers, deduplication, and an outbox or similar reliable publishing pattern. Reconciliation processes and audit logs are also essential for identifying and correcting exceptions.
I would first validate the scope using dashboards for latency percentiles, error rates, traffic, CPU, memory, garbage collection, thread pools, database calls, and downstream dependencies. I would use distributed tracing and logs to isolate the slow path, then profile the application if needed to identify contention, inefficient queries, excessive allocation, or blocking I/O. After applying a targeted fix, I would load test it and monitor the production impact through a controlled rollout.
They decouple services and support asynchronous workflows such as payment events, notifications, reconciliation, and audit processing. I define message schemas, ownership, delivery expectations, retry and dead-letter handling, and consumer idempotency before implementation. I also monitor lag, throughput, failures, and ordering requirements so that operational issues are detected early.
I would clarify the business and regulatory requirement, document assumptions and acceptance criteria, and translate the impact into a technical design and delivery plan. I would communicate status, risks, dependencies, and testing evidence in language appropriate for both technical and nontechnical participants, using Kazakh or Russian when required. Before release, I would ensure security, auditability, rollback planning, and stakeholder sign-off are addressed.
