Sample interview questions
Describe a fixed-price software project you managed end to end and how you protected its margin.

I would explain the initial discovery and estimation approach, the assumptions documented in the statement of work, and how I established a baseline for scope, schedule, and budget. I would then describe using regular burn, forecast, risk, and change-control reviews to identify variance early, securing client approval for material scope changes and protecting delivery margin.

How do you manage requirements when a dedicated Business Analyst is not available?

I run structured stakeholder workshops to clarify outcomes, processes, constraints, and acceptance criteria. I document requirements as prioritized backlog items and, where appropriate, create AS-IS/TO-BE process maps or user journeys, then validate them with stakeholders and maintain traceability through testing and acceptance.

How would you handle a client request that threatens an agreed timeline or budget?

I would first assess the request's business value, effort, dependencies, and delivery impact with the team. I would present clear options such as deprioritizing existing work, extending the schedule, adding approved capacity, or processing a formal change request, ensuring the client makes an informed decision before work begins.

What metrics do you use to assess project health across multiple engagements?

I monitor delivery progress against milestones and sprint goals, budget burn versus forecast, resource utilization, scope and change volume, defect and release quality, risk exposure, and client satisfaction. I use a concise status view with clear owners and mitigation actions so that emerging issues receive attention early.

How do you keep both client stakeholders and a distributed engineering team aligned?

I establish a predictable communication cadence with decision logs, status reporting, backlog refinement, demos, and risk reviews tailored to each audience. I make goals, priorities, acceptance criteria, dependencies, and ownership visible, while creating space for team feedback and escalating decisions promptly when needed.

GT is looking for an experienced Delivery Manager to take end-to-end ownership of software delivery across several client engagements, including Dedicated Team, Staff Augmentation, and Fixed Price projects.

About the Team

You will join GT’s Delivery team and report to the Head of Delivery.

The Delivery team is responsible for ensuring that GT’s client engagements achieve their business and technical objectives while maintaining strong project health, team engagement, client satisfaction, and commercial performance.

You will work closely with:

  • Software engineers, QA specialists, designers, and other project team members

  • Recruitment, People, Finance, and Account Management teams

  • Business Analysts, architects, and technical leaders, depending on the engagement

About the Role

As a Delivery Manager, you will own delivery across several medium-complexity client engagements.

You will manage projects throughout their full lifecycle, from initial discovery and planning through execution, release, client acceptance, and closure. You will be accountable for keeping projects within the agreed scope, budget, timeline, resource, and quality expectations.

The role goes beyond traditional project coordination. You will work directly with client stakeholders to clarify business needs, transform them into clear and testable requirements, and maintain the product backlog when no dedicated Business Analyst is available.

You will also stay close to the client’s wider business context, identify risks and improvement opportunities, support pre-sales and estimation activities, and recognise areas where GT may be able to provide additional value.

Hands-on Fixed Price delivery experience is an essential requirement for this role. You should have independently managed at least one Fixed Price engagement end to end, including scoping, estimation, change control, and margin accountability.

  • Monitor project performance through defined KPIs and metrics, manage budgets, forecasting, and invoicing processes, and ensure smooth releases, stakeholder alignment, and successful client acceptance of deliverables.

Requirements and Business Analysis

  • Gather and refine requirements in close collaboration with stakeholders, translating them into clear, structured, and testable formats; when no dedicated Business Analyst is assigned, map and document business processes using AS-IS and TO-BE models, BPMN, user journeys, or similar techniques.

  • Own and continuously prioritise the product backlog, ensuring alignment with business value, strategic goals, and delivery capacity.

  • Validate delivered functionality against defined requirements and maintain full traceability between requirements, scope, and outcomes.

Stakeholder Management and Account Development

  • Build and manage strong client relationships, ensuring clear communication and expectation alignment.

  • Maintain high levels of client satisfaction by providing regular updates on project progress, risks, and key decisions.

  • Ensure clear understanding of business needs by collaborating closely with stakeholders and aligning expectations across all parties.

  • Identify growth opportunities and support pre-sales, estimation, and solution shaping activities.

Team Management and Development

  • Build and lead high-performing, cross-functional teams aligned with project goals, timelines, and client expectations.

  • Monitor team engagement and morale, proactively identify and resolve conflicts, and support individual growth and professional development.

  • Coordinate staffing activities, including onboarding and offboarding, and collaborate with internal teams to ensure effective and timely resource allocation.

  • Foster a collaborative team environment by encouraging knowledge sharing, continuous improvement, and adherence to best practices.

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • 4+ years of delivery management experience in the software development industry, including at least 2 years of hands-on experience leading cross-functional development teams in day-to-day project delivery.

  • Proven end-to-end ownership of at least one Fixed Price engagement, including scoping, estimation, execution, change control, and margin accountability.

  • Strong understanding of Agile, Scrum, and other delivery methodologies, with the ability to adapt processes to the needs of different projects, clients, and teams.

  • Hands-on experience gathering, documenting, refining, prioritising, and validating requirements directly with client stakeholders.

  • Practical understanding of business analysis techniques, including AS-IS and TO-BE modelling, gap analysis, BPMN, or user journeys.

  • Strong project delivery and financial management skills, including scheduling, budgeting, forecasting, invoicing, profitability, margin, scope, risk, dependency, quality, and change management.

  • Hands-on experience supporting pre-sales activities, including client discovery, requirements clarification, scoping, estimation, proposal preparation, and solution shaping.

  • Proven ability to manage stakeholders at multiple levels and communicate effectively with development teams, client stakeholders, and senior decision-makers.

  • Proficiency with common project and delivery management tools.

  • English at B2 level or above.

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience working in an outsourcing, consulting, or software services company.

  • Practical exposure to Dedicated Team and Staff Augmentation delivery models.
