Sample interview questions
I would first confirm the business objective, scope, affected models, urgency, dependencies, and acceptance criteria for each request. I would prioritise items based on business impact, reporting or planning deadlines, risk, and effort, then maintain a transparent backlog with status updates. Before release, I would test changes in the appropriate environment, obtain stakeholder validation, document the update, and monitor the outcome after deployment.
I would identify the affected module, line items, dimensions, and time period, then compare results with source-system data and prior-period outputs. I would review imports, mappings, formulas, user actions, selective access, and recent model changes to isolate the cause. After correcting the issue, I would validate reconciliations with the business owner, document the root cause, and introduce controls or checks to reduce recurrence.
I would begin with the planning outcome the change supports rather than technical terminology. I would demonstrate the workflow using a realistic finance scenario, provide a concise step-by-step guide, and explain what users should validate before submitting inputs. I would also invite questions, capture feedback, and make training materials available for later reference.
I would help translate the business requirement into clear functional requirements, identify relevant lists, modules, data sources, and security considerations, and support build or configuration tasks within my capability. I would prepare test cases covering calculations, imports, access, and edge cases, coordinate user acceptance testing, and ensure release notes and training are ready. After launch, I would track issues and feedback to support continuous improvement.
AI can help draft support documentation, summarise recurring ticket themes, create initial training content, and suggest clearer acceptance criteria for change requests. I would use it with appropriate controls, ensuring confidential financial data is not shared with unapproved tools and validating all outputs before use. The goal would be to reduce administrative effort while preserving governance, accuracy, and human accountability.
