Sample interview questions
How would you approach an ambiguous request from a Client Success stakeholder to improve a renewal workflow?

I would begin with a discovery session to map the current process, user roles, data sources, exceptions, success metrics, and downstream impacts. I would document the proposed future-state workflow and evaluate declarative options first, using Apex or integrations only where needed for scale, security, or complexity. Before building, I would validate the design with stakeholders, then deliver in a sandbox with tests, release notes, and a feedback loop before production deployment.

When would you choose Salesforce Flow instead of Apex, and when would you use Apex?

I would use Flow for maintainable, well-bounded declarative automation that business administrators may need to understand or adjust. I would choose Apex for complex transaction logic, bulk processing, asynchronous work, sophisticated error handling, reusable services, callouts, or cases where Flow limits, testing, and governance become difficult. The decision should account for scale, security, observability, maintainability, and the platform's shared standards.

How do you design a secure integration between Salesforce and an external GTM system?

I start by defining the system of record, data contract, field mappings, event or sync model, authentication method, least-privilege access, and error-handling requirements. I use secure credential management such as named credentials where appropriate, validate and sanitize inputs, respect CRUD/FLS and sharing rules, and implement retry, logging, monitoring, and idempotency controls. I also document ownership and test failure scenarios before release.

Describe how you would ensure Apex code is production-ready for a business-critical workflow.

I would implement bulk-safe logic, enforce appropriate security controls, separate concerns into reusable services, and write meaningful unit tests covering success paths, edge cases, permissions, and failure handling. I would validate governor-limit behavior and asynchronous patterns where relevant, conduct peer review, and deploy through the established sandbox-to-production process. Post-release, I would monitor logs and business outcomes to confirm the workflow behaves as intended.

How would you collaborate with engineering on a React/NestJS application that surfaces Salesforce data?

I would work with engineering to define clear API contracts, data ownership, synchronization expectations, authorization boundaries, and performance requirements. My contribution would include modeling Salesforce data accurately, exposing only the required information through secure services, identifying platform constraints, and validating end-to-end business behavior. I would also ensure that technical decisions remain understandable to GTM stakeholders and aligned with Salesforce release and data-governance practices.

Luxury Presence is building the AI growth platform for real estate. Backed by Bessemer Venture Partners and other top investors, we’re a Series C company that has hit $100M in annual recurring revenue. More than 90,000 real estate professionals, including over 30% of the WSJ Real Trends top 100 agents in the United States, use us to run and grow their business.

About the Role

The RevTech Senior Salesforce Developer is the embedded technical partner for their GTM squad (Client Success, Sales & Marketing, or Launch Ops), owning the full arc from ambiguous business problem to designed, documented, and shipped technical solution. You’ll operate with significant autonomy as your squad’s de facto strategic technical partner, while a platform Technical Lead sets shared standards across squads. Increasingly, that technical partnership includes engineering as we build UI engagement layers for our GTM teams that live inside a common React/NestJS platform rather than inside Salesforce itself.

What You’ll Do

  • Act as the primary technical partner for your assigned squad, building trust with non-technical stakeholders, understanding their workflows deeply enough to anticipate needs.
  • Translate ambiguous business requirements into clear solution designs, build and test what you design, iterate with the business based on their feedback, and deploy your own work to production, collaborating with your fellow developers and the platform Technical Lead so your changes align with shared standards and don’t conflict with what’s happening elsewhere on the platform.
  • Partner with Engineering on internal GTM tools, custom applications that sit on top of Salesforce data, built on a shared React (Vite/TypeScript/Tailwind/Apollo Client) frontend and NestJS/GraphQL backend, exposing and syncing Salesforce data through secure services and APIs, and building Lightning Web Components only for the narrower set of cases that still call for native Salesforce UI extension
  • Collaborate with AI Automation Engineers, who build and own automations and integrations in n8n, providing the Salesforce expertise and access they need to connect those workflows to your squad’s data and processes.
  • Play a hands-on role in implementing our custom Revenue Lifecycle Management (RLM) solution: data modeling, custom CPQ tool, entitlements, renewal management and integration work connecting Salesforce to the broader commission, billing, and our Presence platform.
  • Design, implement, and maintain integrations between Salesforce and third-party systems, including Fin AI, Gong, Dialpad, HubSpot, Front, Tabs, PandaDoc, and Slack
  • Determine the right tool for the job. Flow and declarative configuration when it fits, Apex and custom code when the problem demands it, and be equally comfortable executing either
  • Write and maintain secure, well-tested Apex classes, triggers, batch jobs, and asynchronous processes for business-critical workflows, adhering to Salesforce security best practices and maintaining meaningful test coverage
  • Participate in code review, maintain documentation, and ensure changes are deployed through structured release processes (sandboxes → production)
  • Use AI tooling to accelerate development, generating Apex, debugging logic, scaffolding LWCs, validating test coverage, and reading, updating, and maintaining Salesforce metadata and configurations

What You Bring

  • Comfort operating as the sole embedded technical resource for a business function, with real autonomy and real accountability
  • Demonstrated ability to run a discovery conversation with a non-technical stakeholder and come back with a clear solution design and documentation, not just working code
  • Ability to read a business process, ask the right clarifying questions, and turn ambiguity into a working technical solution
  • 5+ years of Salesforce development experience with a demonstrable track record of writing Apex and building LWCs in production environments
  • Proficiency in Apex (classes, triggers, batch/queueable/schedulable), SOQL/SOSL, and the Salesforce security model
  • Comfortable building Lightning Web Components when a use case calls for native Salesforce UI, though most of our current engagement layer work happens outside Salesforce in custom applications built with Engineering, so experience exposing Salesforce data through secure services/APIs is just as relevant
  • Hands-on experience building and maintaining integrations with external systems
  • Comfort using AI tooling as part of your daily development workflow; able to prompt effectively, validate AI-generated code critically, and ship it confidently
  • Working knowledge of Salesforce DevOps tooling. We use GitHub and Gearset

What Sets the Best Candidates Apart

  • Familiarity with B2B SaaS Revenue Life Cycle Management, CPQ tools, Salesforce Flow at scale, and Omni Channel.
  • Track record of owning a complex, custom-built Salesforce solution, not just contributing to one
  • Experience administering third-party GTM tools beyond Salesforce. This role goes beyond supporting just Salesforce and includes our entire GTM tech stack.
  • Exposure to the modern web stack our internal tools run on, including React (Vite, TypeScript, Tailwind, React Router, Apollo Client), NestJS/GraphQL, Postgres, and Redis for background jobs, enough to be a productive partner to Engineering on these tools, rather than needing everything handed off

What This Role Is Not

This is not a configurator or admin-only role. We build declarative-first when the use case supports it, but this role requires a developer who knows when to configure and when to write code, and who is fully comfortable doing both.

This is also not a single-cloud, single-system role. You’ll support Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, and Experience Cloud, not just one, and your scope extends beyond Salesforce entirely, into our third-party GTM tools and the internal applications we build in partnership with Engineering. This isn’t a Salesforce developer role in the traditional sense; it’s a technical ownership role across the whole GTM tech stack.

This also isn’t a purely heads-down engineering role. You’re expected to be a visible, trusted partner to your squad, attending weekly meetings with your stakeholders. You will not be a ticket taker, we expect you to be a dedicated technical strategic partner working in collaboration with your business function, RevTech team, Engineering, and AI Automation Engineers. You will not be working in a silo.
