Sample interview questions
Describe a complex Boomi integration you owned in production. What was its architecture and how did you ensure reliability?

I would describe the source and target systems, integration patterns, error-handling approach, and operational controls. I would emphasize retry logic, idempotency where appropriate, alerting, logging, dashboards, and a documented process for resolving failed transactions.

How would you investigate a failure where records are leaving an HRIS but are not appearing in a downstream ticketing or CRM platform?

I would trace the transaction end to end, starting with source extraction and Boomi process execution logs, then validate transformations, authentication, endpoint responses, and any queues or error paths. I would isolate whether the failure is caused by data quality, mapping, middleware behavior, rate limits, or the downstream platform, then communicate impact and remediation clearly.

How do you design integrations that can evolve when source or target APIs change?

I use clear interface contracts, versioned mappings and documentation, reusable components, controlled configuration, and automated validation where possible. I also plan for backward compatibility, monitor deprecation notices, and test changes in non-production environments before release.

What logging and monitoring would you implement for business-critical integration flows?

I would capture correlation IDs, execution status, timestamps, source and target identifiers, error details, and safe payload context without exposing sensitive data. I would create alerts for failures, unusual processing volume, latency, retry exhaustion, and SLA breaches, with dashboards that support both technical and business-level visibility.

How do you work with non-technical stakeholders when an integration issue affects business operations?

I provide concise, impact-focused updates that explain what is affected, the current status, mitigation steps, expected next update, and any needed business decisions. After resolution, I document root cause, corrective actions, and prevention measures in language appropriate for both technical and business audiences.
