About this role.
Join Vonage and help us innovate cloud communications for businesses worldwide!
Why This Role Matters:
Vonage’s BSS platform is the commercial engine behind how we bill, rate, provision, and manage customers across our CPaaS and communications portfolio. As Senior Director, you’ll own both the engineering and product direction of that platform globally – shaping strategy, leading delivery, and building the team that keeps it running and evolving.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead BSS Engineering:
Own architecture, delivery, and platform performance across billing, rating, provisioning, ordering, and revenue management
Set engineering standards for integration, release management, test automation, observability, and technical debt
Ensure platforms are scalable, secure, compliant, and built for a multi-product, multi-region model.
Own the BSS Product Roadmap:
Define and drive the BSS product strategy, translating commercial, finance, regulatory, and customer needs into a prioritized roadmap
Cover the full quote-to-cash and order-to-cash lifecycle – CPQ, order management, provisioning, billing, collections, and revenue recognition
Evolve usage-based and hybrid monetization capabilities: mediation of CDRs and API events, real-time charging, prepaid/postpaid, wallets, and commit-plus-overage plans.
Maintain Revenue Assurance & Compliance:
Embed reconciliation controls, billing accuracy SLAs, and fraud/abuse prevention to protect revenue
Ensure readiness across SOX, PCI-DSS, GDPR, telecom tax regimes, and audit requirements.
Shape API Platform & Developer Experience:
Lead the BSS capabilities underpinning Vonage’s CPaaS and UCaaS developer experience
Own API metering, rate limiting, quotas, and multi-tenant isolation that feed directly into billing
Champion design-first API standards (OpenAPI), versioning policy, and self-service tooling.
Build & Lead the Team:
Lead a globally distributed team of engineering managers, product owners, architects, and delivery specialists
Run a clear operating cadence across planning, governance, platform health, and stakeholder prioritization
Grow organizational capability through hiring, succession planning, and AI-enabled ways of working.
What You’ll Bring:
Required
Senior BSS engineering and product leadership in telecoms, CPaaS, UCaaS, or enterprise SaaS
Deep expertise across the BSS stack: order management, billing, rating, CPQ, provisioning, and revenue management
Hands-on experience with platforms such as Salesforce (CPQ, Sales Cloud, Service Cloud), Zuora, Amdocs, Oracle Communications, CSGi, NetCracker, or Optiva
Strong grasp of end-to-end quote-to-cash and usage-based monetization models
Experience with API lifecycle governance, API gateway and metering infrastructure, and CPaaS/UCaaS BSS environments
Proven track record leading distributed, matrixed teams and using AI or data-driven tooling to improve delivery and quality.
Nice to Have
Background in CPaaS, UCaaS, CCaaS, or Tier 1/2 telecommunications
Experience with partner billing, API monetisation, or subscription management at scale.
How you’ll benefit:
- Private Medical Insurance: Adeslas
- Group Pension Plan: Generali
- Life Insurance and Group Personal Accident: VidaCaixa
- Ericsson Care Line
- Discretionary Time Off (DTO)/Hourly Paid Time Off (PTO)
- Volunteer Time (VTO)
- Additional benefits and perks will be shared and discussed with you by the recruiter during the interview process.

Sample interview questions
I would first establish a measurable baseline for billing accuracy, platform reliability, delivery risk, and customer impact. I would then sequence modernization through domain boundaries and business value, using APIs and incremental migration patterns while retaining reconciliation controls and parallel validation for critical billing flows.
I would define the commercial model and rating rules with finance and product stakeholders, then ensure reliable ingestion and mediation of CDRs and API events. The solution should support real-time charging where needed, transparent usage visibility, auditability, quotas, overages, and resilient reconciliation between usage, rating, invoicing, and revenue recognition.
I set clear outcomes, decision rights, operating cadences, and shared metrics across product health, roadmap delivery, quality, and customer impact. Regular portfolio reviews and transparent dependency management allow local leaders to operate autonomously while remaining aligned to global priorities.
I would implement end-to-end reconciliation between source usage, mediation, rating, invoices, payments, and the general ledger, with exception workflows and ownership. I would also define billing-accuracy SLAs, monitor anomalous usage and fraud patterns, preserve audit trails, and regularly test key controls against regulatory requirements.
I would make platform health visible through shared metrics such as incident trends, release lead time, error rates, and capacity risk, then reserve explicit roadmap capacity for foundational work. Decisions should be based on customer and revenue impact, risk exposure, and the cost of delaying modernization rather than treating technical debt as an unplanned engineering concern.
