Sample interview questions
I would first align on the decisions each audience needs to make, define shared metric definitions and data ownership, and identify where role-specific views are necessary. I would build a governed semantic layer, prioritize actionable KPIs and drill-down paths, validate results with end users, and establish monitoring for freshness and data-quality issues.
I would explain the business problem, source data, transformation logic, validation checks, scheduling approach, and measurable result. A strong example would show how automated extraction, cleaning, analysis, and reporting reduced manual effort while improving consistency and auditability through Git-based version control.
I would verify data freshness, lineage, query logic, and recent pipeline or definition changes before treating the movement as a business signal. I would then segment the metric by relevant dimensions such as cohort, channel, product, geography, and credit attributes, quantify the drivers, and communicate both findings and confidence levels to stakeholders.
I lead with the decision, the most important finding, and the recommended action rather than the methodology. I use simple visuals and plain language, clearly state assumptions and limitations, and retain technical detail in an appendix or follow-up documentation for teams that need it.
I would use a transparent intake and prioritization process based on business impact, urgency, effort, and strategic alignment. I would deliver time-sensitive insights quickly when needed, while identifying recurring requests that should be converted into reusable datasets, automated workflows, or self-service dashboards.
