Sample interview questions
I listen for the speaker's full meaning, preserve the intended tone and level of formality, and interpret in complete, accurate segments. If a term is unclear, I follow protocol by requesting clarification rather than guessing.
I use a private, secure workspace with no unauthorized listeners, protect access to my devices and accounts, and never retain or discuss call information outside the assignment. I also follow the client's confidentiality policies and interpreter code of conduct.
I would remain in the interpreter role, interpret the request to the appropriate party, and avoid giving personal advice or adding my own explanation. If needed, I would politely state that my role is to facilitate communication accurately and impartially.
I prepare my workspace and technology before my shift, keep concise notes when appropriate, and reset my focus between calls. I use calm pacing and professional boundaries so that each caller receives accurate, attentive service.
I convey meaning faithfully while recognizing differences in register, politeness, and cultural context. When a direct equivalent is not available, I interpret the meaning as accurately as possible without changing the message or inserting personal opinions.
