Sample interview questions
How would you evaluate whether a newly launched product feature improved user outcomes?

I would first align with product partners on the feature’s intended user and business outcomes, define a primary success metric and guardrail metrics, and confirm instrumentation quality. Where possible, I would run a randomized A/B test, assess statistical significance and practical impact, segment results thoughtfully, and present a recommendation that includes limitations and next steps.

Describe how you investigate an unexpected decline in a key product metric.

I begin by validating the metric definition, pipeline freshness, and tracking changes to rule out data-quality issues. I then decompose the trend by time, platform, geography, customer segment, funnel step, and relevant product releases to isolate likely drivers. I communicate an evidence-based diagnosis, quantify impact, and recommend follow-up actions or monitoring.

What makes an experiment analysis statistically rigorous?

Rigorous analysis starts with a clear hypothesis, predefined metrics, an appropriate unit of randomization, adequate sample size, and checks for assignment integrity. I consider confidence intervals alongside p-values, account for multiple comparisons when needed, review guardrails and segment effects cautiously, and distinguish statistical significance from meaningful business impact.

How do you make dashboards useful rather than simply comprehensive?

I design dashboards around specific decisions and audiences, prioritizing a small set of clearly defined metrics with useful comparisons, filters, and alerting. I document metric logic, validate data sources with stakeholders, and iterate based on how teams actually use the dashboard. The goal is self-service visibility that reduces repetitive analysis without obscuring important context.

How would you communicate a complex analytical finding to a non-technical Product Manager?

I would lead with the decision-relevant conclusion, expected impact, and recommended action before explaining methodology. I use simple visuals and plain language to show the evidence, state important assumptions and uncertainty, and reserve technical detail for an appendix or follow-up discussion. This lets the stakeholder act confidently while preserving analytical transparency.
