Sample interview questions
How do you build a sourcing strategy for a difficult technical role?

I begin with an intake conversation to clarify must-have capabilities, comparable companies, interview criteria, and the real trade-offs the team can make. I then create candidate personas, use multiple channels such as LinkedIn Recruiter, referrals, communities, and targeted outreach, and review response and conversion data weekly to adjust the strategy.

Describe how you use recruiting metrics to improve a hiring process.

I track funnel conversion, time in stage, source quality, interviewer turnaround time, offer acceptance, and candidate feedback. If a stage has unusual drop-off or delay, I partner with the hiring team to identify the cause, such as unclear criteria or scheduling friction, implement a change, and measure whether the outcome improves.

How do you maintain a strong candidate experience while managing several concurrent searches?

I establish clear communication expectations, maintain accurate ATS notes and next steps, and use structured check-ins to prevent candidates from going silent. I prioritize timely, candid updates and ensure every candidate receives a respectful close, even when the outcome is a rejection.

How would you partner with a hiring manager whose expectations are unrealistic for the available talent market?

I would use market evidence, sourcing findings, compensation information, and pipeline data to explain the gap between the desired profile and the likely candidate pool. I would then facilitate a practical calibration discussion around required versus preferred qualifications, compensation, location flexibility, and interview speed.

What would you do in your first 90 days at PolicyMe?

I would first learn the business, hiring plans, technical talent needs, and current Lever workflow. Next, I would establish strong working rhythms with hiring managers, assess funnel data and candidate feedback for friction points, and deliver immediate improvements to sourcing and process consistency. By the end of 90 days, I would aim to have dependable pipelines for priority roles and a clear roadmap for recruiting operations and employer-brand improvements.

Overview of the role:

We’re on a mission to modernize insurance, making it simpler, more accessible, and customer-first. The insurance industry is a $1T market that has remained largely untouched by the digital revolution, and PolicyMe is here changing that. As a remote-first, Toronto-based startup with big ambitions, we’re looking for a Talent Acquisition Partner to help us build the future of insurance in Canada and beyond.

Joining a small, collaborative People & Culture team, you’ll combine hands-on recruiting with creativity, problem-solving, and continuous improvement while partnering with leaders across the organization. You’ll hire exceptional people to PolicyMe through innovative sourcing strategies, meaningful candidate relationships, while strengthening our recruiting processes, systems, and employer brand.

What you’ll be doing

  • Own recruitment processes from beginning to end, including everything from intake and job-posting through sourcing, candidate communication, interviews, feedback, rejections, and close.
  • Partner with hiring managers to clarify role requirements, design effective interview processes, calibrate on candidates, and keep searches moving.
  • Develop sourcing strategies and build qualified pipelines for a variety of roles, with a strong focus on technical hiring (think, software engineers, some QA, product managers, etc.)
  • Use LinkedIn Recruiter, Juicebox, professional communities, referrals, events, and other creative channels to source and engage candidates.
  • Use data to drive how you recruit, including maintaining updated dashboards and organized processes within our ATS (currently Lever), tracking recruiting metrics and using funnel insights to improve how we recruit.
  • Identify recruitment bottlenecks and implement practical improvements that reduce friction for candidates and hiring teams.
  • Support employer-brand initiatives, including regular content for the PolicyMe LinkedIn page and careers content.
  • Contribute to a thoughtful, inclusive, and consistent candidate experience at every stage of the process.

What we are looking for

  • 2–5 years of recruiting experience in a fast-paced, high-growth technology, startup, scale-up, agency, or similar environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, human resources, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • End-to-end recruiting experience, from intake through offer and close, with strong partnerships across hiring managers and recruiting teams.
  • Hands-on technical recruiting experience across software engineering, product, QA, and design roles.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple searches, projects, timelines, and stakeholders.
  • Proactive, clear communicator who builds trust with candidates and cross-functional partners while effectively surfacing progress, priorities, and risks.
  • Analytical and action-oriented problem solver who diagnoses issues, recommends solutions, and follows through.
  • Experience with LinkedIn Recruiter, Juicebox or similar sourcing tools, Brighthire, and Lever or another ATS.
  • Curious and committed to continuously improving recruiting skills, tools, and processes, including a keen interest in using AI in how we build best-in-class recruitment and candidate experiences.
  • Preference for Toronto-based, with interest in coming into our office on Thursdays (office is in Yorkville, there is no mandate to come in!).

Why join us:

  • Generous PTO – 20 vacation days
  • A comprehensive benefits plan with premiums paid in full by PolicyMe
  • Investment in your professional development, including an L&D budget, AI tooling budget, performance reviews twice a year and ongoing feedback to ensure you reach your highest potential
  • An extremely high performing, low-ego, remote-first team that is truly disrupting an old industry
  • Option to work from home or our Toronto-based office (bonus: we cover the costs to bring all our employees in-person twice a year for experiential socials!)
  • Access to stock options based on performance
  • Compensation: The total target cash compensation for this role is $88,000–$100,000 CAD, based on experience. We’ll walk through the details together during the interview.
