Sample interview questions
Describe a time you diagnosed and resolved a technical problem in the field with limited supervision.

I would begin by confirming the reported symptoms, reviewing installation details and safety requirements, and isolating likely mechanical, electrical, or network causes. I would test methodically, document findings and corrective actions, communicate status to the customer, and escalate with clear evidence when specialized support is needed.

How would you approach installing a condition-monitoring system in an unfamiliar manufacturing environment?

I would first review the site requirements, equipment specifications, hazards, mounting locations, power, cabling, and network connectivity. After completing the installation, I would verify operation against the defined specifications, test communications and sensor readings, document the work, and walk the customer through the completed system.

What practices do you use to work safely around industrial equipment?

I follow site safety procedures, use the required PPE, assess hazards before beginning work, and confirm that the equipment is in a safe state before handling electrical or mechanical components. I also maintain organized tools and work areas and stop work to seek guidance whenever conditions are unsafe or unclear.

How do you manage a high travel schedule while keeping service records, tools, and expenses accurate?

I use a consistent closeout process after every visit: update service records, record installed or replaced parts, reconcile tools and inventory, submit expenses, and confirm next steps with the customer and internal team. This routine keeps administrative work current even when travel plans change quickly.

How would you communicate a technical issue to a customer who is frustrated by downtime?

I would acknowledge the operational impact, explain what I know in clear non-technical language, and provide a realistic next step and expected update time. I would avoid making unsupported promises, keep the customer informed throughout troubleshooting, and document the resolution once the issue is addressed.
