Sample interview questions
How would you prioritize Kalshi's state-level policy efforts across the Western region?

I would assess each state using a structured matrix covering regulatory risk, legislative activity, commercial importance, stakeholder influence, and likelihood of a near-term policy outcome. I would then sequence proactive engagement in high-impact states while maintaining an early-warning process for emerging issues across the full region.

Describe how you would build credibility with a state regulator unfamiliar with prediction markets.

I would begin by understanding the regulator's statutory mandate and concerns, then provide a concise, factual explanation of the product, market structure, consumer protections, and applicable federal framework. Credibility comes from being responsive, transparent about open questions, and maintaining a consistent dialogue rather than approaching only when a decision is imminent.

What is your approach to drafting or improving policy language?

I start with the intended legal and operational outcome, identify relevant statutory definitions and enforcement mechanisms, and draft language that is precise, administrable, and aligned with existing state frameworks where possible. I would stress-test the language with internal legal and business teams and external policy advisers to identify unintended consequences before advancing it.

How would you manage an external lobbying or public-affairs firm in a priority state?

I would set clear objectives, stakeholder targets, reporting cadence, decision rights, and measurable milestones at the outset. I would remain closely involved in strategy and messaging, use regular updates to recalibrate tactics, and ensure external partners represent the company consistently and accurately.

Tell us about how you would respond to an unexpected adverse legislative proposal.

I would quickly analyze the proposal's legal and business implications, map sponsors and relevant committee members, and determine the procedural timeline. From there, I would coordinate internal subject-matter experts and outside partners on tailored education, amendments, coalition outreach, and direct engagement while keeping leadership informed of risks and decision points.

What is Kalshi?

Kalshi has defined a new category: prediction markets. Kalshi allows people to trade on the outcome of any events and turn any question about the future into a financial asset. Kalshi fought for years and legalized prediction markets in the US for the first time in history, is currently the fastest growing financial market in America, and has thousands of markets across politics, economics, financials, weather, tech, AI, culture and more.

We believe prediction markets have the potential to be the largest financial market because they turn anything into a financial position.

  • Our vision: well… build the largest financial market on the planet.

  • Our mission: bring more truth to the world through the power of markets.

Our culture is simple: we hire really talented people, work really hard, and enjoy the climb. We are looking for ambitious and exceptional people to join our (relatively small) team to help us build the next generation of financial markets.

Role Roadmap

Kalshi is looking for someone to own our state-level regulatory and legislative strategy across the Western US. You’ll be the person on the ground in your region, building relationships with representatives and regulators, understanding legislative developments, and moving the ball forward in some of our most complex and high-value states. In this role, you’ll create the infrastructure, own the relationships, and develop the playbook for how Kalshi operates across CA, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY, AK, and HI.

What You’ll Do

  • Own state policy strategy across your region: tracking the legislative calendar, identifying opportunities, and sequencing campaigns

  • Monitor regulatory developments and identify initiatives that affect Kalshi

  • Build and maintain relationships with elected and appointed officials, legislative committees, and state agencies to advocate for and educate them about Kalshi’s product

  • Draft and shape policy language

  • Travel to priority states and be in the room when it matters

What You Bring

  • Experience working inside state government or an Attorney General’s office or running state-level government affairs campaigns, ideally in a novel or contested regulatory environment

  • Deep familiarity with the political landscape of the Western US: California’s regulatory complexity, the Pacific Northwest’s legislative dynamics, and the varied politics across mountain and island states (one or all)

  • Proven ability to manage third parties

  • Strong instincts on policy language

  • Willingness to travel across the West (and New York – HQ – on occasion)

Our Culture

Meritocracy is at our core, and we value people who take ownership and figure (usually hard) things out. We dream big. We love our craft deeply and are proud of what we put out in the world. We are committed to our vision of building something big… but also useful: a product that brings more truth through the power of markets.

Kalshians are Kalshi’s most important asset: we pick Kalshians carefully, so we trust them fully on day 1.

Commitment to Equal Opportunity

Kalshi is committed to creating a culture of inclusion and belonging, and we are proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We believe it is our collective responsibility to uphold these values and encourage candidates from all backgrounds to join us in our mission. All qualified applicants will be treated with respect and receive equal consideration for employment without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, uniform service, veteran status, age, or any other protected characteristic per federal, state, or local law. If you are passionate about what you do and want to use your talents to support our mission and values, we’d love to hear from you.
