Oddball is hiring a remote DevOps Engineer to support a federal CMS program affecting the Medicare experience. The role builds and operates secure AWS infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, Terraform modules, containerized deployments, and Kubernetes-based workflows. Core technologies include AWS, Jenkins, Terraform, ECS, Fargate, EC2, S3, Aurora PostgreSQL, Secrets Manager, and Argo Workflows. The engineer will collaborate closely with architecture and development teams while supporting adoption of AI engineering platforms. U.S. work authorization is required, and federal background investigation or clearance eligibility may be needed.

I organize modules around stable platform capabilities such as networking, ECS services, IAM, databases, and secrets. I expose versioned, well-documented inputs, keep environment-specific values in separate configurations, enforce secure defaults, and validate changes through pull requests, automated plans, policy checks, and controlled applies.
I would implement stages for source validation, dependency and image scanning, unit and integration testing, container image creation, artifact publishing, infrastructure validation, and deployment. The pipeline would use least-privilege IAM roles, store credentials in a secrets manager, promote immutable image tags across environments, and include approval or automated quality gates before production deployment.
I would define service health checks, appropriate task sizing, autoscaling policies, multi-AZ networking, centralized logging and metrics, alarms tied to service-level indicators, and safe deployment settings such as rolling or blue-green releases. I would also test failure scenarios, document runbooks, and regularly review capacity, costs, and incident patterns.
I would translate control requirements into repeatable technical guardrails, including encryption, audit logging, access reviews, vulnerability scanning, configuration baselines, change records, and evidence collection. Infrastructure as code and automated compliance checks help make controls consistent, reviewable, and easier to demonstrate during assessments.
I involve partners early when defining platform patterns, publish concise documentation and examples, and use regular planning and technical discussions to surface tradeoffs. I also make operational data visible through dashboards and post-incident reviews so that reliability decisions are based on shared evidence rather than handoffs.

We’re looking for a DevOps Engineer to join our CMS team, supporting a federal program that directly impacts the Medicare experience for millions of Americans.
What you’ll be doing:
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines including automated scanning, testing, and deployment workflows
- Provision and manage infrastructure using Terraform with emphasis on reusable modules and secure configuration baselines
- Manage and optimize AWS infrastructure including ECS, Fargate, EC2, S3, RDS Aurora PostgreSQL, and Secrets Manager
- Work with Kubernetes and containerized environments including Argo Workflows
- Support enterprise adoption of AI engineering platforms including Amazon Bedrock, GitHub Copilot, Gemini, and Cursor
- Partner with Architecture and Development teams to implement reliable, scalable infrastructure patterns
- Build internal tooling to support development and operational workflows
What you’ll bring:
- Hands-on experience with AWS and core cloud infrastructure management
- Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines with Jenkins
- Proficiency with Terraform for infrastructure provisioning and environment management
- Experience with ECS and containerized deployments
- Familiarity with Argo Workflows is a plus
- Security engineering experience (FISMA, FedRAMP, or ATO) is a plus
- Thrives in a remote, collaborative Agile environment and genuinely enjoys working closely with a cross-functional team
- Communicates clearly and openly, whether documenting infrastructure decisions or coordinating with engineering teams

Compensation:
At Oddball, it’s important each employee is compensated competitively and fairly. In alignment with state legal requirements. A range for the included position is listed below. Be advised, actual offer details are determined by job category, job location, and candidate skill level.
United States Wage Range: $110,000 – $155,000
