Sample interview questions
I would start with stakeholder interviews to understand the decisions the dashboard must support, the audience, update frequency, and definitions of success. I would document proposed metrics, dimensions, source tables, assumptions, and edge cases, then validate a prototype with users before productionizing the dashboard.
I would reconcile aggregates to trusted source reports or raw records, test joins for duplicate or missing rows, and review filter logic and time boundaries. I would also build reasonableness checks, investigate unexpected changes, document validation results, and obtain stakeholder confirmation for key metrics.
I would add clear table and column descriptions, define business terms and calculation logic, identify grain and refresh cadence, and label sensitive or deprecated fields. I would use consistent naming conventions and include example use cases so users and natural-language tools have the context needed to select fields correctly.
I would first inspect the query plan and identify large scans, expensive joins, skew, or unnecessary shuffles. I would reduce selected columns and rows early, confirm appropriate join conditions, use aggregations strategically, and consider partitioning, clustering, or reusable optimized views where supported by the platform.
I would explain the limitation in terms of its business impact, such as what decision or interpretation may be affected, rather than focusing only on technical details. I would clearly state what is known, what is uncertain, the recommended workaround, and the plan and timeline for resolving the issue.

Your Role:
As a Data Analyst in our Business Intelligence organization, you will turn operational and customer data into actionable reports and dashboards that drive business decisions. You will partner directly with internal business teams, such as sales compensation, to gather reporting requirements, document technical specifications, and build user friendly data assets.
Your primary hands-on work will involve writing SQL views and building dashboards directly within Databricks using data populated by our engineering team. A key aspect of this role is context engineering, where you will add structured descriptions and metadata to tables, views, and columns so that our data is easily discoverable and accurately queried by AI tools like Claude. Additionally, you will validate report accuracy, monitor data quality, and maintain documentation of your reporting logic to ensure long-term reliability.

What You’ll Need:
- 2 to 4 years of experience in a business intelligence, reporting, or data analyst role.
- To be considered for this role, you must meet one of the following criteria: Hybrid schedule with the ability to commute to our Columbia, MD office three days a week, or hybrid schedule with the ability to commute to our Boston, MA office three days a week.
- Fundamental working proficiency in SQL, including an understanding of select statements, order of operations, joins, aggregations, and filtering.
- Basic to working proficiency with Databrick, a comparable lakehouse, or cloud data platform such as Snowflake.
- Experience building dashboards and presenting data visually using tools like Databricks native dashboards, Tableau, Power BI, or Looker.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively gather requirements from non-technical business stakeholders and translate them into usable data assets.
- A detail oriented mindset with comfort in documenting data objects, definitions, and logic for downstream users.
And Ideally:
- Prior experience writing table and column descriptions or metadata to support data catalogs, semantic layers, or natural language query tools.
- Exposure to Python or PySpark within Databricks notebooks, which will give you a significant advantage for career progression on this specific team.
- Familiarity with analytics engineering practices, such as dbt, or version control systems like Git.
- Experience working in enterprise software, SaaS, or cybersecurity environments.

This is the base pay range for this position. Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including the candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, location and experience, and may fall outside of the range shown. Employees are also eligible for variable compensation in addition to base pay (commission for sales roles, bonus for non-sales roles), depending on company and individual performance. $72,500—$96,500 USD
