I would first map the impacted user journeys, services, data flows, and dependencies with Product and Engineering. I would prioritize coverage based on customer impact, likelihood of failure, change complexity, and production history, then define layered unit, API, UI, exploratory, regression, and integration tests. I would also establish release entry and exit criteria, including automation results, defect severity thresholds, and rollback readiness.
I use resilient locators, page or screen object patterns, deterministic test data, explicit synchronization around meaningful application states, and independent tests that can run in parallel. I avoid brittle selectors and fixed waits, keep assertions focused on business outcomes, and regularly remove duplicate or low-value tests. I also monitor flaky-test trends and treat reliability issues as engineering work rather than simply rerunning failed tests.
I would validate status codes, authentication and authorization behavior, schemas, required and optional fields, data types, error handling, pagination, idempotency, and boundary conditions. For workflows that write data, I would verify persistence through API reads or targeted database queries and confirm downstream integrations receive expected events or values. I would automate key contract and regression checks using Postman or a code-based test framework integrated into CI.
I would gather precise reproduction context, timestamps, user actions, environment details, request or correlation IDs, logs, and recent deployment information. I would compare successful and failed transactions, inspect relevant telemetry and data records, and form hypotheses around timing, concurrency, configuration, or data-specific conditions. Once isolated, I would document the root cause, add a regression test at the lowest effective layer, and work with the team on monitoring or safeguards to prevent recurrence.
I would engage early in refinement to clarify acceptance criteria, identify testability gaps, and agree on risk areas before implementation begins. With developers, I would promote fast feedback through unit, API, and component-level automation; with DevOps, I would integrate quality gates and reporting into the CI/CD pipeline. With Product, I would communicate release risk in customer-impact terms and use defect trends to improve future planning and test strategy.

CentralReach is looking for a Sr. Quality Engineer to work within our Engineering department. As a Quality Engineer, you will help drive quality throughout the entire software life cycle through collaboration with product and development teams, development of test cases and automation scripts, and analysis of the system to consistently deliver quality software to our customers. Key Accountabilities:
- Enhance the test case library to increase test case coverage.
- Create test cases for verification and validation of web, mobile, API and all system integrations.
- Perform manual acceptance testing on an Agile team, investigating issues and reporting bugs/defects.
- Increase automated test coverage with reusable and deterministic automation scripts.
- Develop automated scripts within expected timeboxes to ensure all work that may impact the system has coverage.
- Maintain the test automation library for high reliability during execution.
- Develop test plans that ensure full test coverage of changes in the application under test to support releases .
- Promote and encourage collaboration and quality related activities with the Product and Engineering teams.
- Develop intelligent and efficient testing strategies to dramatically increase the ratio of internally found defects versus customer reported defects.
- Ensure quality releases of software with no production downs and/or critical impediments to users.
Desired Skills and Experience:
- 5 to 7 years of experience in Quality Assurance working in an Agile Engineering environment.
- 5 to 7 years of experience testing web and mobile applications in a SaaS organization.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate with Product, Engineering and DevOps.
- Experience writing test cases (functional and non-functional) and management of a test case library.
- Experience with scripting/programming languages to develop test automation scenarios for web and/or mobile applications, and API services.
- High level competency in programming/scripting languages and concepts.
- Deep understanding of UI Test Automation with best practices and patterns for building reliable and scalable automation.
- Knowledge of web application technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript), REST API, and mobile platforms (iOS and Android).
- Experience parsing and verifying responses/payloads from API interfaces.
- Experience using API development/automation tools such as Postman.
- Ability to understand relational data in a database and query the database
- Experience formulating testing strategies for software releases.
- Solid understanding of utilizing different types of testing and best practices for creating testing suites targeting various phases of the development life cycle.
- Solid understanding of agile testing best practices and processes.
- Solid understanding of the CI/CD pipeline and integrating test automation to support stages of the pipeline.

Base Salary Range
