Sample interview questions
I would explain the initial reliability risks, the data used to prioritize them, and the technical changes made, such as defining service-level objectives, improving alerting, removing single points of failure, and automating recovery. I would quantify the outcome through uptime, incident reduction, recovery time, or deployment reliability.
I would begin with capacity modeling and load testing based on expected traffic patterns, then validate autoscaling, queueing, rate limiting, caching, database capacity, and regional failover. I would also establish event-specific dashboards, clear escalation paths, runbooks, and a controlled change freeze before the event.
I start from user-impacting service-level indicators such as latency, errors, throughput, and saturation, then connect metrics, logs, traces, and deployment events for rapid diagnosis. I favor actionable alerts tied to service objectives, avoiding noisy alerts that do not require intervention.
I use version-controlled, peer-reviewed infrastructure definitions to make environments repeatable, auditable, and safe to change. I pair this with automated validation, policy checks, reusable modules, and progressive deployment practices to reduce configuration drift and operational risk.
I provide secure, well-documented paved roads for common workflows such as deployment, monitoring, secrets, and service configuration, while allowing justified exceptions. I gather feedback from application teams, measure adoption and friction, and evolve the platform based on real developer and operational needs.
About this role.
SeatGeek believes live events are powerful experiences that unite humans. With our technological savvy and fan-first attitude we’re simplifying and modernizing the ticketing industry.
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join SeatGeek’s Platform team. You’ll improve the systems that power the entirety of SeatGeek’s technology ecosystem. This unique role combines both the craftsmanship and rigor of traditional Software Engineering, whilst also incorporating an openness to the development of the underlying infrastructure; including core compute, infrastructure as code, database, and network infrastructure.
The nature of the ticketing engineering industry places unique constraints and workflows on our systems and infrastructure, especially during high-load onsales, requiring out of the box solutions and automation to be the norm. This team is the backbone to our Enterprise and Consumer lines of business as we grow our primary and secondary ticketing platforms that support world-class clients such as the Dallas Cowboys, and Manchester City FC.

What you have
- Passion for craftsmanship and product. You have well-considered opinions about how software and reliable infrastructure should work, and hold yourself and your code to a high standard
- Experience building business critical software in a fast-paced environment. We’ll be interested in hearing about what you’ve built and how
- Experience solving complex technical challenges. SeatGeek engineers create custom solutions to unique ticketing problems, including high traffic onsales, interactive venue maps, inventory tracking, and event matching. We’ll be excited to hear about challenging problems you’ve solved
- Experience with Kubernetes, containers, and serverless compute platforms
- Experience with continuous integration, delivery, testing, and code deployment
- Experience using observability tools to make performance improvements and forecast growth
- Experience improving system architecture, diagnosing shortcomings and implementing evidence-based recommendations
