Sample interview questions
How would you design a highly available SIP voice deployment across data centers and public cloud?

I would begin by defining call-flow, capacity, latency, and failure-domain requirements. I would deploy redundant SBCs and supporting services across separate availability zones or data centers, use health checks and controlled failover, and validate routing, DNS, and observability before production rollout. I would also document rollback procedures and regularly test failover scenarios.

Describe your approach to investigating a recurring voice-quality or call-failure incident.

I would correlate signaling traces, SBC logs, media-path metrics, network telemetry, and recent configuration changes to establish the scope and timeline. After identifying the root cause, I would implement a durable corrective action, such as a routing, codec, capacity, or monitoring change, then verify the outcome and document prevention steps.

What experience do you have with Ribbon SBCs and PSX, and how would you use them in a deployment?

I would use Ribbon SBCs to secure and control session-border connectivity, including interoperability, routing, topology hiding, and policy enforcement. PSX would centrally manage routing and policy decisions, enabling consistent deployment patterns and controlled changes across the voice estate.

How would you use automation to improve telecom deployment reliability?

I would use Ansible or a similar tool to create version-controlled, repeatable configurations and pre-deployment validation checks. Automation should include idempotent changes, peer review, inventory management, post-change verification, and a clear rollback path to reduce manual errors and deployment variance.

How do you ensure operations teams can successfully support a newly deployed telecom service?

I would provide concise architecture diagrams, call-flow documentation, runbooks, monitoring and alerting guidance, escalation paths, and known failure modes. I would also conduct a knowledge-transfer session, walk through operational scenarios, and incorporate feedback so the documentation is practical for on-call support.
