Sample interview questions
How would you adapt an English paid-search campaign for the Japanese market?

I would first clarify the audience, product positioning, conversion action, and brand constraints. Then I would conduct Japanese-native keyword research, localize intent and terminology rather than directly translate phrases, adapt ad copy for cultural relevance, and validate results through search-term and conversion data.

Describe your process for using search-term reports to optimize a Google Ads account.

I segment search terms by campaign, match type, device, audience, and conversion performance to identify high-intent queries, irrelevant traffic, and emerging themes. I add suitable terms as keywords, build negative-keyword lists where appropriate, and document the expected performance impact of each change.

What considerations are important when managing Performance Max alongside Search campaigns?

I define clear conversion goals, ensure high-quality audience and asset inputs, and monitor overlap with core Search coverage. I use reporting and search-category insights to identify gaps, protect high-value branded or exact-match traffic where needed, and evaluate performance against business outcomes rather than clicks alone.

How would you report Japanese regional performance within a global PPC framework?

I would retain common global KPIs such as spend, conversions, CPA, conversion rate, and qualified-lead metrics, while adding Japanese-market context such as localized keyword themes, seasonal behavior, and copy insights. I would provide concise written recommendations that explain what changed, why it matters, and the next action.

How do you collaborate effectively as a freelance strategist across time zones?

I establish expected deliverables, decision owners, reporting cadence, and communication channels at the outset. I provide structured asynchronous updates with completed work, data-backed findings, risks, and questions so stakeholders can make decisions without requiring frequent live meetings.
